Fu il primo in tutto il calatino e fra i primi 9 su 61 comuni della provincia di Catania. Le prime cappelle gentilizie - vedi l' artistica cappella dei baroni Reforgiato o la tomba dei baroni Majorana della Nicchiara - sono state costruite verso la fine dell' 800.
Negli anni è stato piu' volte ampliato.
 Its origins date back to 1853.
It was the first in the whole calatino and among the first 9 out of 61 municipalities in the province of Catania. The first noble chapels - see the artistic chapel of the Reforgiate barons or the tomb of the barons Majorana della Nicchiara - were built towards the end of the 19th century.
Over the years it has been expanded several times.
