Il suo fondatore, fra' Paolo da Venezia, si presume fosse uno dei primi compagni di San Francesco.
Morì a Militello in odore di santità.
Fu uno dei primi conventi francescani.
L' erudito Pietro Carrera nel 1608 scrisse nella " Relazione delle Chiese e figure della Beata Vergine" che la nuova chiesa di S. Francesco d' Assisi (o dell' Immacolata) venne completata ai suoi tempi.
Oggi del Convento rimangono pochi resti.
Ogni anno viene aperta ai fedeli l' 8 Dicembre per celebrare l' Immacolata Concezione.
 The Church and Convent of St. Francis of Assisi is assumed to have been erected around 1235.
Its founder, Fra Paolo da Venezia, is presumed to be one of the first companions of St. Francis.
He died in Militello in the odor of sanctity.

The 'Carrera Peter scholar wrote in 1608 in the "Report of the Churches and the figures of the Blessed Virgin" that the new church of St. Francis d' Assisi (or dell 'Immacolata) was completed in his day.
Today few remains remain of the Convent.
Every year it is opened to the faithful on December 8th to celebrate the Immaculate Conception.
