★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Situata nel quartiere Celio, questa chiesa è molto antica (IV sec.) e conserva le reliquie di papa Sisto II, cui è dedicata.Fu ricostruita nel XIII secolo (papa Innocenzo III) e nel XVIII (papa Benedetto XIII). Qui predicò anche San Domenico.
 Located in the Celio district, this church is very old (4th century) and preserves the relics of Pope Sixtus II, to whom it is dedicated. It was rebuilt in the 13th century (Pope Innocent III) and in the 18th century (Pope Benedict XIII). Here also St. Dominic preached.

Eretta nel IV secolo, è registrata come il titulus Crescentianae, forse la matrona Crescenziana che finanziò la costruzione. La costruzione della Basilica fu approvata da papa Anastasio I (399-401). La chiesa conserva le reliquie di papa Sisto II, santo cui è dedicata, traslate qui dalle catacombe di San Callisto nel VI secolo. Venne ricostruita all'inizio del XIII secolo per volere di papa Innocenzo III. La Basilica, ad eccezione dell'abside e della torre campanaria, venne ricostruita nel XVIII secolo per volere di papa Benedetto XIII.
A little bit of history.
Erected in the 4th century, it is registered as the titulus Crescentianae, possibly the Crescenziana matron who financed the construction. The construction of the Basilica was approved by Pope Anastasius I (399-401). The church preserves the relics of Pope Sixtus II, the saint to whom it is dedicated, moved here from the catacombs of San Callisto in the 6th century. It was rebuilt at the beginning of the 13th century at the behest of Pope Innocent III. The Basilica, with the exception of the apse and the bell tower, was rebuilt in the 18th century at the behest of Pope Benedict XIII.

Unica la possibilità di vedere i muri affrescati della basilica medievale, conservati nell'intercapedine dell'attuale abside e meritevoli di restauro. Esemplare l'accoglienza delle suore che ci hanno permesso di visitare il complesso nelle sue parti più significative.
Interesting glass windows designed by Cambellotti and implemented by Picchiarini last restoration. Unique is the possibility of seeing the frescoed walls of the medieval basilica, preserved in the cavity of the present apse and worthy of restoration. The reception of the sisters that allowed us to visit the complex in its most significant parts is exemplary.

Da visitare senz'altro la Chiesa bellissima all'interno. Ottima la casa per ferie,sia per la posizione logistica veramente unica,sia per l' accoglienza,l'eccellente pulizia e l'ottimo rapporto qualità-prezzo. Da non perdere!
An absolutely magical place, in the heart of ancient Rome. The Congregation is directed by an extraordinary nun Made Silvia Agnoletto. To visit without a doubt the beautiful Church inside. Excellent holiday home, both for its truly unique logistic position and for its warmth, excellent cleanliness and excellent value for money. Not to be missed!
