★ ★ ★ ★ ★ La chiesa, già dedicata a Santo Stefano protomartire, prese il nome di San Francesco nel 1267, quando diventò sede dell’omonimo convento dei Frati Minori Conventuali (ora sede del Comune), soppresso nel 1809. La chiesa è sede della Confraternita di Santa Maria del Suffragio. In essa, ogni martedì sera, si celebra la santa Messa (i martedì di Sant’Antonio) essendo collegata alla chiesa di Sant’Antonio da Padova, anche questa sede dell’omonima confraternita. Assai frequentate le novene di Santa Barbara, patrona secondaria di Isernia, sia in giugno che in dicembre, e la tredicina di sant’Antonio in giugno. Da questo luogo prendono avvio le processioni di Santa Barbara e di Sant’Antonio nel mese di giugno di ogni anno.
The church, already dedicated to St. Stephen protomartyr, took the name of St. Francis in 1267, when it became the seat of the homonymous convent of the Friars Minor Conventual (now seat of the Municipality), suppressed in 1809. The church is the seat of the Confraternity of Santa Maria of the Suffrage. In it, every Tuesday evening, Mass is celebrated (the Tuesdays of Saint Anthony) being connected to the church of Saint Anthony of Padua, also this seat of the homonymous brotherhood. Very frequented the novenas of Santa Barbara, patron saint of Isernia, both in June and December, and the tredicine of Saint Anthony in June. From this place the processions of Santa Barbara and Sant’Antonio start in June each year.
