Fu chiamato a costruirla Pietro Guidini di Giacomo, proveniente dalla valle di Lugano. Il 29 maggio 1674 Alzo fu poi eretta a parrocchia sotto il titolo di San Giovanni Battista. La chiesa è strutturata con un’unica navata e quattro cappelle laterali. Nel 1791 la chiesa fu oggetto di grandi lavori di ampliamento e di ristrutturazione. L’altare maggiore, isolato e posto nel presbiterio, è dedicato alla natività di S. Giovanni Battista, e fu benedetto, il 23 giugno 1783. Nel 1816 furono rifatti i banchi e nel 1869 si incominciò a mettere in opera il lastricato di vivo per la bussola della porta maggiore della chiesa realizzata dal falegname Piralla Maurizio di Alzo. Nel 1894 fu decorata dai pittori Valsesia e Bovini. Le figure degli affreschi delle volte sono del Burlazzi e rappresentano scene della vita di San Giovanni. Nel 1934 vennero messe le colonnette di marmo antico ai due altari di San Giuseppe e del Sacro Cuore. Nel 1940 furono messe alle finestre vetri cattedrale e fu sostituito l’altare di legno del Sacro Cuore con altare di granito lucido. The Parish Church of San Giovanni Battista was built starting from 1589. Pietro Guidini di Giacomo, from the Lugano valley, was called to build it. On May 29, 1674 Alzo was later erected as a parish under the title of San Giovanni Battista. The church is structured with a single nave and four side chapels. In 1791 the church was the subject of major expansion and renovation works. The main altar, isolated and placed in the presbytery, is dedicated to the nativity of St. John the Baptist, and was blessed on 23 June 1783. In 1816 the benches were rebuilt and in 1869 work began on the paving for the compass of the main door of the church made by the carpenter Piralla Maurizio di Alzo. In 1894 it was decorated by the painters Valsesia and Bovini. The frescoes in the vaults are by Burlazzi and represent scenes from the life of San Giovanni. In 1934 the ancient marble columns were placed on the two altars of San Giuseppe and the Sacro Cuore. In 1940 cathedral glass windows were placed and the wooden altar of the Sacred Heart was replaced with a polished granite altar.
