Scendendo si percorre un'altra Scala con affreschi che raccontano la Resurrezione. Quello della Scala Santa è un rito religioso di grande importanza, legato ad una tradizione suggestiva, secondo la quale fu infatti Gesù salendo e scendendo dal pretorio di Pilato, a consacrare la pietra dei gradini col suo sangue. Dopo tanti anni di chiusura la Scala di Campli è stata restaurata e riaperta a fedeli e visitatori e portata al suo antico splendore! ????? Questa scala, ricavata in una sezione indipendente della chiesa di San Paolo che si trova a fianco, venne istituita nel 1772 grazie al Privilegio Pontificio di Clemente XIV. La scala rappresenta la salita che Gesù dovette percorrere per raggiungere la stanza dove avrebbe subito l’interrogatorio da parte di Ponzio Pilato prima di essere crocifisso. La scala è costituita da 28 gradini e si deve salire in ginocchio per ottenere la remissione dai peccati. La scala è tappezzata da affreschi che ripropongono la Passione di Gesù Cristo. Alla sommità una ghiera metallica nasconde un altare su cui è posto il corpo di Gesù Cristo raffigurato subito dopo la deposizione dalla croce. Anche la scala di discesa è ricca di affreschi.
