Piena di affreschi e soffitto ligneo con affreschi. Ma la vera bellezza sta nella cripta anch'essa piena di affreschi. It is located on the main square in front of the town hall and not far from the holy staircase. A must see. Full of frescoes and wooden ceiling with frescoes. But the real beauty lies in the crypt also full of frescoes.

Da visitare per la smisurata bellezza,un gioiello abruzzese! Gorgeous cathedral. Inside then really interesting in every place including the crypt. The ceiling paintings on wood are lovely. To visit for its boundless beauty, an Abruzzo jewel!

È stata classificata come Monumento nazionale d'Italia dal 1902 e rappresenta una delle realtà di maggiore identificazione e suggestione del territorio camplese, custodendo memoria d'arte e di spiritualità. L'esterno della Chiesa mostra due diversi aspetti architettonici: lo stile romanico del campanile e quello neoclassico del frontale dell'edificio. Imponente la torre campanaria, con i 42 metri di altezza e la cuspide ottagonale. Le origini della Chiesa sono antichissime, la primitiva costruzione, oggi Cripta, risale a prima dell'anno Mille. All'interno custodisce molte opere d'arte e bellissimi affreschi ma, purtroppo, non ho potuto ammirali perché era chiusa. The church of Santa Maria in Platea, also known as the cathedral and dome of Campli, is a parish church in the city of Campli, in the province of Teramo. It has been classified as a National Monument of Italy since 1902 and represents one of the most identifiable and suggestive realities of the Camplese territory, preserving the memory of art and spirituality. The exterior of the church shows two different architectural aspects: the Romanesque style of the bell tower and the neoclassical one of the front of the building. The bell tower is impressive, 42 meters high and the octagonal spire. The origins of the Church are very ancient, the primitive construction, today the Crypt, dates back to before the year 1000. Inside it houses many works of art and beautiful frescoes but, unfortunately, I could not admire them because it was closed.

Un cartello esterno racconta la storia travagliata di questo edificio colpito più volte dai terremoti e oggetto di diversi interventi nel corso del tempo. Particolare la facciata che si compone di una porzione centrale simmetrica intonacata posta tra due corpi laterali costituiti uno dal campanile l'altro dal proseguimento della chiesa stessa, ambedue in blocchi di pietra. La chiesa è aperta ma l’interno è tutto puntellato, l’intero edificio è sostenuto da una fitta ragnatela di tubi in acciaio (tubi innocenti verniciati). Il terremoto ha colpito duramente questo edificio, intere aree non sono accessibili e quello che più conta è che non sembra ci siano dei lavori in corso. Informandomi apprendo che non c’è molto da vedere, qualche scorcio d’affresco e il bel soffitto a tavole lignee dipinte, questo perché le opere più importanti sono state spostante nel Museo Diocesano compresa la famosa Madonna del Latte. The cathedral of Santa Maria in Platea, built in 1395 on the remains of an ancient building, takes its name from the stone sculpture placed on the portal. By informing me that there is not much to see, some glimpses of frescoes and the beautiful ceiling with painted wooden panels, this is because the most important works have been moved to the Diocesan Museum including the famous Madonna del Latte.

The earthquake took the lives of about 308 citizens. The epicenter was near L'Aquila. This is one of the very beautiful churches in Italy. Much is done to preserve what has not been destroyed. The crypt is in good shape and impressive with its frescoes dating from the 14th century. Campli is a beautiful town and worth a visit.
