XIII Unica chiesa a Gubbio a tre navate; fu iniziata immediatamente dopo la morte del Serafico sulle proprietà dei suoi amici Spadalonga presso cui si rifugiò, fuggendo d'Assisi dopo la rinuncia ai beni paterni; era già officiata nel 1256. L'interno subi due trasformazioni, l'ultima nel sec. XVIII. Tra gli anni 1926 1938, il ripristino nello stile originario della parte absidale, ha fatto riemergere importanti affreschi del Trecento e del Quattrocento. Il convento attiguo, con affascinanti angolature architettoniche, ospita una ricca raccolta d'arte. Beautiful church dedicated to San Francesco. Costruita nel XIII secolo, presenta una semplice facciata con portalein stile gotico sormontato da un rosone proveniente da un'altra chiesa. Per l'ingresso ho aspettato 3 ore....fino alle 15,30 (l'orario non è adeguato al turismo) ma è stata una delusione. Dubito che San Francesco avrebbe gradito....mi aspettavo semplicità e mura affrescate, invece ....oltre le colonne un affollamento di statue e dipinti che la rendono anonima anzi quasi soffocante.... Externally it is imposing, simple and of beautiful architecture. For entry I waited 3 hours .... until 15.30 (the time is not suitable for tourism) but it was a disappointment. I doubt that San Francesco would have liked it .... I was expecting simplicity and frescoed walls, instead .... beyond the columns a crowding of statues and paintings that make it anonymous indeed almost suffocating ....
I	I viaggi di Daniela on Google ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Prima della costruzione in questa stessa sede vi era la casa degli amici di famiglia e di commercio di San Francesco che lo ospitarono quando lui decise di abbandonare la sua famiglia e fece la sua scelta di vita. Infatti in Sacrestia sono visibili ancora le fondamenta della vecchia casa. La facciata, incompiuta, è una delle prime chiese costruite in memoria. Purtroppo non ho potuto visitare gli interni, era chiusa. Vicino ci sono dei giardinetti ben tenuti dove riposarsi. This little temple represents an essential stage in the Festa dei Ceri ritualities ( here the election of the Captains takes place and the statuettes of saint Ubaldo, Giorgio and Antonio, placed on the top of the Ceri , are kept). The church was built on the cave where, according to tradition, the tamed wolf lived and it took its name ( S. Francis of Peace) when in 1584 the stone on which St. Francis prayed after the pact of peace with the wolf was taken here and became the altar stone. In the crypt it is possible to see a sarcophagus which, according to tradition, is from the tomb of the wolf.
