Storicamente queste grotte hanno rappresentato il primo nucleo dell'eremo Virginiano del XII-XIII secolo. L'impianto, nei secoli successivi, è stato notevolmente rimaneggiato ed ampliato con la costruzione della chiesa che è stata eretta agli inizi del XVI secolo come si rileva da una pergamena conservata nella biblioteca della chiesa madre di Picerno. Dopo il terremoto del 1980 la chiesa ha richiesto lavori di restauro e ristrutturazione che si sono protratti per molti anni fino al 2016 quando è stata riaperta al culto. The Church of the Savior stands on a series of caves, which according to popular stories, have been a refuge for brigands. Historically, these caves represented the first nucleus of the 12th-13th century Virginian hermitage. The plant, in the following centuries, has been significantly remodeled and enlarged with the construction of the church which was erected at the beginning of the 16th century as can be seen from a parchment preserved in the library of the mother church of Picerno. After the 1980 earthquake, the church requested restoration and restructuring works that lasted for many years until 2016 when it was reopened for worship.
K	Katia Di Nuto on Google ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Sul monte del Cristo Salvatore in contrada Corte del Salvatore a sei chilometri circa dall'abitato, vi è la chiesa del Salvatore che si innalza su una serie di grotte. Il portale di ingresso in pietra lavorata, preceduto da un atrio coperto corredato da sedili e delimitato da una cancellata, è affiancato da un grande Crocifisso danneggiato dal tempo ed un bassorilievo in gesso riproducente la "Mater Salvatoris" di m. 1,30 per m. 0,60, opera dello scultore prof. Aristide Tancredi da Picerno. All'interno della chiesa c' era un grande altare in legno con impressioni in oro su fondo verde scuro (altare posto nella chiesa Madre di San Nicola di Bari), sul quale si innalza una magnifica pala in legno intagliato, decorato di pitture delimitate da colonne con intarsi in oro. Nella parte centrale della pala troneggiano la statua di San Giuseppe, quella della Vergine col Bambino e quella di S. Giovanni, chiamati dai popolani "Ssandonn' llu Salvator" scolpite in legno e dipinte a colori molto vivaci. La balaustra è in legno rustico. La festa del Salvatore è 24 giugno e quella di S. Giuseppe il 19 marzo. On the Mount of Christ the Savior in the Corte del Salvatore district, about six kilometers from the town, there is the Church of the Savior which stands on a series of caves. The portal of entrance in worked stone, preceded by a covered atrium equipped with seats and bordered by a gate, is flanked by a large Crucifix damaged by time and a bas-relief in plaster reproducing the "Mater Salvatoris" of m. 1.30 per m. 0.60, work of the sculptor prof. Aristide Tancredi from Picerno. Inside the church there was a large wooden altar with gold impressions on a dark green background (altar placed in the Mother Church of San Nicola di Bari), on which stands a magnificent carved wooden altarpiece, decorated with paintings delimited by columns with gold inlays. In the central part of the altarpiece stands the statue of St. Joseph, that of the Virgin with Child and that of St. John, called by the common people "Ssandonn 'llu Salvator" carved in wood and painted in very bright colors. The balustrade is in rustic wood. The feast of the Savior is June 24 and that of St. Joseph on March 19th.
