★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Non vi sono documenti che comprovano l’anno esatto della fondazione, ma certamente è tra le chiese più antiche della città. Il culto dell’Arcangelo Michele venne diffuso dai Longobardi dopo la vittoria sui Saraceni nel 663 d.c. E’ probabile, dunque, che siano stati i primi conti longobardi a volerne la fondazione (Anibrando resse per primo la contea di Marsico intorno alla metà dell’VIII° sec.). Notizie manoscritte attestano che San Michele fungeva da Cattedrale prima del 1131, anno di erezione del nuovo tempio dedicato a San Giorgio. Continui restauri dovuti ai frequenti terremoti (quello del 1700 è attestato dalla lapide sul campanile), hanno profondamente modificato la struttura originaria della chiesa
 There are no documents proving the exact year of the foundation, but it is certainly among the oldest churches in the city. The cult of Archangel Michael was spread by the Lombards after the victory over the Saracens in 663 AD It is probable, therefore, that it was the first Lombard accounts to want its foundation (Anibrando first ruled the county of Marsico around the middle of the eighth century). Handwritten reports attest that San Michele served as a cathedral before 1131, the year of the erection of the new temple dedicated to San Giorgio. Continuous restorations due to frequent earthquakes (that of 1700 is attested by the plaque on the bell tower), have profoundly changed the original structure of the church
