S	Sergio S. on Google ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ L’edificio originario risaliva al secolo XII quando il vescovo Enrico e il conte Goffredo ne disposero la costruzione. Nel 1293 si costruì un magnifico campanile grazie al conte di Marsico Tommaso di Sanseverino e del settimo Vescovo Giovanni Vetere da Salerno, a testimoniare questo avvenimento vi è un'altra iscrizione alla base della torre a cuspide, che attribuisce l'opera a Maestro Silvestro. Distrutta nel 1809 in seguito a un incendio, fu riedificata per volere del vescovo Ignazio Marolda che si adoperò anche per la ricostruzione del palazzo vescovile. I lavori durarono fino al 1827, quando nel duomo vennero collocate, assieme ad un pregevole organo, le spoglie di san Gianuario, grande patrono e protettore di Marsico Nuovo, oggi patrono principale dell'Arcidiocesi. Con esso si attuò la traslazione in Cattedrale della statua del valente artista Giacomo Colombo, la quale oggi mostra i tratti originali della realizzazione avvenuta nel 1714. A seguito del terremoto del 1857 venne distrutta; nel 1875 iniziano i lavori di ricostruzione e viene riconsacrata nel 1906. The original building dates back to the 12th century when Bishop Enrico and Count Goffredo ordered its construction. In 1293 a magnificent bell tower was built thanks to the Count of Marsico Tommaso di Sanseverino and the seventh Bishop Giovanni Vetere from Salerno, to witness this event there is another inscription at the base of the spire tower, which attributes the work to Maestro Silvestro. Destroyed in 1809 following a fire, it was rebuilt at the behest of Bishop Ignazio Marolda who also worked for the reconstruction of the bishop's palace. The works lasted until 1827, when the remains of San Gianuario, great patron and protector of Marsico Nuovo, today main patron of the Archdiocese, were placed in the cathedral, together with a valuable organ. With it the translation into the Cathedral of the statue of the talented artist Giacomo Colombo took place, which today shows the original features of the construction that took place in 1714. Following the earthquake of 1857 it was destroyed; reconstruction work began in 1875 and was reconsecrated in 1906.
