★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Bella passeggiata nel centro storico di Barrea, che in effetti costituisce il borgo fortificato del Castello. L'ambiente è suggestivo e merita una mezz'ora di passeggio sciolto, senza pensieri. Da vedere:
- i vari scorci tra i vicoli del borgo
- il punto panoramico esterno al castello sul lato nord: l'uscita è nella piazzetta della chiesa con la bella fontanella a due bocche.
- Il castello con lo spettacolare panorama del lago: per entrare si paga 1 (uno) euro.
- Da non perdere il museo (Antiquarium) della civiltà Safina. È molto piccolo (3 sole stanze) si paga 1 (uno) euro per entrare e si vede in 15 minuti. Ma è suggestivo e istruttivo, anche grazie alle ottime didascalie sui pannelli
 Nice walk in the historic center of Barrea, which in fact constitutes the fortified village of the Castle. The environment is suggestive and deserves a half hour of easy walking, without worries. To be seen:
- the various glimpses of the alleys of the village
- the panoramic point outside the castle on the north side: the exit is in the church square with the beautiful two-mouth fountain.
- The castle with the spectacular view of the lake: to enter you pay 1 (one) euro.
- Do not miss the museum (Antiquarium) of the Safina civilization. It is very small (only 3 rooms) you pay 1 (one) euro to enter and you can see it in 15 minutes. But it is suggestive and instructive, also thanks to the excellent captions on the panels

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Molto bella la passeggiata x i viottoli di Barrea osservando panorami meravigliosi e respirando aromi e profumi classici di borghi antichi e pieni di richiami al passato. Al culmine della passeggiata comunque si accede al Castello da dove il panorama è meraviglioso. Ci torniamo spesso e il piacere è sempre uguale
The walk through the lanes of Barrea is very beautiful, observing wonderful views and breathing in the classic aromas and scents of ancient villages full of references to the past. At the height of the walk, however, you enter the Castle from where the view is wonderful. We go back often and the pleasure is always the same

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Drove up on a Monday on the 25th November. As stated in Google, the opening hours were 10 to 1pm in the morning. Took a drive from Opi only to find out that the Castello was closed.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ The whole valley is visible from there. Stunning views of the lake in the centre of the Medieval town of Barrea. Opening hours change with high and low season, so don't be shy and ask at the local cafes, they will help you and maybe find someone to open the castle for you if it's closed. EDIT: Explanations are available in English on the brochure now, and English is spoken by local guides ? Castle is ancient, built not long after the 11th Century, and was built by local noble families after the local friary in the valley was burnt down by Saracens (Arabs) and the friars moved the population up the mountains, where the town then developed. Some parts are newer, around 15th Century. There is also a local museum, small but very, very interesting, that you can ask to see, if it's not already open.
