Per quanto riguarda la storia si prega di accedere alla sezione dedicata, tuttavia anticipando che il castello situato nell'area frontale alla romana "via delle Gallie" ospitò eserciti ed imperatori, oltre che a dare alloggio durante i suoi studi giovanili lo stesso Pico della Mirandola, padre del Rinascimento italiano, forse proprio ispirato dall'energia sottile e benessere che il castello offre ai suoi visitatori. Per quanto riguarda la forma, il castello non ha la solita pianta quadrangolare, bensì vagamente trapezoidale. Più di qualsiasi altro edificio simile, il Castello di Valeggio ha conservato, pressoché intatte, le caratteristiche della costruzione a carattere difensivo. Le sue torri - ben otto - non sono distribuite regolarmente lungo il perimetro esterno, ma disposte in modo asimmetrico. All'aspetto compatto e robusto di edificio ben protetto del lato orientale si contrappone una maggior morbidezza di linee, quasi da edificio rurale, della parte che si protende verso ovest. Le cascine realizzate nel 1500, seguono le stesse linee architettoniche dei disegni della "Cascina Perfetta" di Leonardo da Vinci: non si esclude che lo stesso Leonardo fosse presente nella costruzione delle stesse durante la sua permanenza in Pavia e Vigevano all'inizio del 1500 quando visse presso il ducato degli Sforza di Milano. Meriterebbe invece più pubblicità per la sua storia antica ( è situato vicino ad un antico "tratturo" di età romana ed ha ospitato tra le sue mura personaggi storici come Pico della Mirandola). Anni fa, ho potuto visitare le sue torri, avendo conosciuto il proprietario di allora ( oggi è di proprietà di una società privata) ed avevo apprezzato la particolarità della sua struttura. Sono state perfettamente restaurate alcune parti ( in particolare le antiche scuderie), che sono a disposizione per eventi e matrimoni. Le torri invece, avrebbero bisogno di restauri importanti. Dall'esterno è poco visibile perché coperto da una struttura agricola che li circonda. La sua pianta trapezoidale e le grandi torri cilindriche rendono la sua fisionomia inconfondibile. Pare che una di esse risalga addirittura all'Ottavo Secolo, anche se la costruzione che si osserva oggi è in larga parte Due-Trecentesca. Ormai trasformato in location per matrimoni ed eventi di vario tipo, è necessario accedere almeno al cortile interno per ammirarne pienamente l'architettura. Le prime testimonianze del castello risalgono al 1200 alla famiglia Sannazzari, l'attuale cortile interno, era un tempo l'antico cortile esterno della rocca.
