Presidio fortificato di un abitato di grande importanza in epoca tardoantica e altomedievale, è probabilmente di origine assai alta, risalente forse al X secolo ma ha subito vari rifacimenti, inizialmente nell'XI secolo, quando i conti palatini dominavano sulla Lomellina e quindi agli inizi del XV, allorché ormai queste terre facevano parte della signoria viscontea. Oggi si compone di due edifici distinti: quello verso ovest, con pianta ad L, che appartiene al castello vero e proprio; e quello verso est, di epoca posteriore. Il castello, che è di proprietà comunale ed è adibito a sede municipale, è stato oggetto di recenti restauri che ne hanno posto in evidenza il bel paramento murario in mattoni a vista e ne ha valorizzato il caratteristico motivo di mattoni a dente di sega (tipico dei fortilizi dell'area pavese e della Lomellina) corrente a guisa di nastro.alla sommità della scarpa basamentale delle fronti meridionale ed occidentale. In alcune, che adesso sono adibite ad ufficio del municipio, si possono ammirare degli affreschi. Fu Antonio a dare il via alla ricostruzione della fortificazione viscontea preesistente, edificata nel XIV Secolo e gravemente danneggiata, se non del tutto distrutta, dal saccheggio perpetrato da Facino Cane all'inizio del 1400. Dall'esterno sono ancora visibili il fossato e, nella torre principale, le due nicchie che servivano ad ospitare gli argani del ponte levatoio. Oggi sede del comune, l'accesso alle sue sale interne è possibile solo tramite personale Pro Loco in occasione di visite guidate. The castle derives its name from the Count Antonio Crivelli, who became lord of Lomello in the fifteenth century by order of Francesco Sforza, Duke of Milan.
