★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Baccanti was truly the best experience of southern Italian cuisine for us. Everything from the appetizer (Egg at 62 degrees), to pasta w white truffles (a must!) to veal chicks and pigeon w polenta and even coffee was a WIN! Lovely service (finally a professional and friendly waiter with mastery of English who can recommend), great variety of wine choices, exquisite atmosphere and still at reasonable prices (you can skip the ricotta cloud desert). We definitely wish we had another day to repeat this experience. Do put this restaurant on your must have list if you are visiting Matera.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Delicious lunch in a unique Matera cave setting. The dishes were beautifully presented and prepared - the only disappointment was the tagliolino with lamb ragout my husband ordered. He thought the pasta could've been more al dente. The bread and olive oil provided were top quality. There seemed to be only one waiter serving the lunch crowd - he was nice but very busy.

Superb service, extensive and quality wine listing, and food that forces you to eat every morsel then brush your plate clean with their traditional Matera bread.
My highlights were the local olive oil, tortellini with cod cream and figs, and their veal cheek - bellisimo!!
