Worst rental car experience I've ever had. Due to a late train connection, we realised that we would not make it in time to the pick-up of our pre-paid rental car at Avis' office in Verona downtown. We called that office to inform them. Waiting 15 min extra after closing time for us to make it was not an option for the staff, so instead we were instructed to go to Avis' office at the airport to pick up a car there. This should, according to the staff, be just fine. Just to make sure that everything actually would be fine when we arrived at the airport office, we also called Avis' european contact center. We explained the situation, were put on hold and finally informed by the clerk that she had spoken to the airport office and thad everything was just fine; they had a car waiting for us. Very delayed, tired, sweaty and hungry we finally made it from Verona railway station to the airport. At Avis' desk, however, we were informed by a negligent clerk and her aggressive supervisor that "no one had talked to them" although they had been there "all day" and that this was considered a no-show. They had absolutely no car to offer us, wouldn't listen to our despair and simply told us that the problem was not theirs. We had to go tur to the negihbouring company (Europcar) instead and pay (again!) for another rental car. We apperantly were totally wrong to believe that well-established companies like Avis were trustworthy. Never again! Avoid at all costs!

I received a very good deal via my airline, and the staff at Avis was friendly and helpful. Some English is spoken. I felt the offers they made - like extra insurance or upgrades - were not too pushy, although I do suggest to shop around online and not to buy extras when you go to pick up the car. The rental office is very close to the arrivals area and only a few minutes walk from departures. Returning the car was as easy as picking it up! There is a gas station up the road where you can fill your rental car up prior to returning it.

Customer service was useless and rude! Was arguing with the manager for 3 hours, she kept saying my card was declined by their card machine ( which she had no idea how to use ) after calling avis head office and my bank they both said there was no problem with the card I was using, I finally managed to get the manager to let me put in my card details myself and bang it works first time! The most stressful thing about this whole situation is she was the one getting annoyed because I wouldn't give up when it should have been me getting annoyed. She kept trying to send me away even though I have paid 200 for car already! Also outside the airport is a pay toll you have to go through and she didn't give us any indication that there would be anything like that. Never again hiring a car from Avis

The advisor who served me was Anne who made a mistake of giving me the wrong car which belonged to a different customer, i go to italy once a year and everytime i rent a car with avis however this last visit the customer service was awful i would never recommend to use their service not my friends neither my family, because of Anne my holiday was a nightmare ! Because in the end I had to rent with a different company ( inter rent ) who was a lot more professional and made sure to make me understand everything didnt feel like a rushed process just to get me out of there. Never using Avis again!!!

Check-in was fine. We did not have to wait long. Take extra caution when checking the vehicle over for pre-existing damage. The cars are parked in a dark parking lot which made it difficult to see any damage and no one came over to check the car over with us. We asked for someone but they said it was fine - HOWEVER once leaving the car park and arriving to our next destination my husband noticed a small dent above the car door handle which could not have happened on our journey there (and of course AVIS had marked zero damage on their check for the car). Fortunately we had third party insurance, but I feel that the company is negligent towards ensuring their customers are protected. We take fault for accepting the car as was and missing the damage, but as I said they did not make it easy for us to spot it in the first place. I would have given them more stars had they been more helpful in checking over the car.

Something really shady is going on there. Having read other reviews I'm not the only victim. I picked up the car after dark and staff didn't go to check the car with me,they just said check it yourself for damage and let us know. The rental car park was pitch black,no proper lighting so having looked didn't see anything obvious. Few days later when I returned the car very abrupt guy said to wait until he goes and checks the car for damage.he came back declaring there were two scratches so I went with him and was shown one mark on the bumper and something on the wheel that could have been dirt. All 4 wheels were quite dirty and muddy from the start of the rental which I didn't think at the time to point out although I would still not see the Mark on there to be fair. They use some high power torches to look for the smallest of marks.having done only one journey from and to the airport and had the car parked at the private property at all times I knew I could not have done the damage they claimed. The guy was very unfriendly and made me sign car return form which to my horror appeared to be a big bill for hundreds of euros that I got via email later on. Nothing was explained or what happens next and I was tricked into signing something I didn't know what it was. Judging by other reviews with similar experiences , I would say avoid the place.the whole experience left me stressed and shaken. Very dishonest place. I will be taking this further as they should be investigated. Until now I had nothing but great experiences with Avis all around the world in last 10 years. But this branch left me out of pocket and simply cheated. Ombudsmen will be in touch.

We rented a passenger van/minibus (7 person, 2 back seat rows) from Sat21Jul till Sat4Aug (2 weeks) at AVIS and the experience was very good. AVIS was the only rental company offering 0 Euro risk for damage and theft and in the end we paid 1630 Euro which in the first place (during reservation online) was 1888 Euro. We booked a Renault van/minibus initially and when arriving we could choose between the Renault, a Fiat and a Citroen Space Tourer. We choose for the Citroen Space Tourer because of its slightly reduced size, which is indeed the case and we found this to be very convenient and the minibus still had enough space in the trunk for the suitcases. Also the Citroen has got cameras all around for parking and an integrated Bluetooth Audio system and Navigation. The Airconditioning was sufficiently powerfull. The Diesel engine was also powerfull and we used very low fuel. People at the AVIS Verona Aiport desk were friendly and helpful, contrary to some reviews here on Google. Their English speaking and understanding was reasonable and sufficient for Italian circumstances. This was my first experience in renting a car/minibus/minivan and I checked all large car rental companies which had a desk at Verona Airport. I avoided the car rental "brokers" based on the very negative reviews on Google. In general I am very disappointed in the car rental "business" because it is impossible to compare prices and there is a forrest of unclear risk amounts for damage and theft and the prices varied from 2800 Euro with 1000 Euro risk for damage and 3000 Euro risk for theft and the AVIS deal which was 1888 Euro with 0 Euro risk for damage and 0 Euro risk for theft. Also when I called the car rental companies I would get total different rental amounts via the phone (sometimes more, sometimes less) and also different amounts for the risk for damage and theft. Also when I called on Thursday they would have different prices then when I called on Tuesday, very stupid. The excuse of the persons on the phone was always that they are working with "daily prices", totally stupid I would say.
