★ ★ ★ ★ ★ They are supposed to sell tickets inside the bus but they refused at the beginning, they said 'go to the office'. This office wanted only cash and didn't give back the right amount of money for us and the couple before. Then we came back in the bus. More tickets than seats are sold. Luckily we went in. The seats are broken. They don't have air conditioning. The driver smoked inside. In the middle of the trip they sold places for people who didn't have tickets so why did they tell us it was not possible at first? Then they explained they have guides etc for Etna but they didn't explain everything, it's only to make money.. After our day to come back they said the mitting point is one specificic restaurant but when it arrived (late by the way) it was almost full.... 12 (broken again) seats left, so lots of people stayed on the touch without a ride back...

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ There is no actual bus station, not even a stop, just buses standing on asphalt and people waiting in dirt on the sun/rain. Disgrace.
One bus per day to Etna at 8:15, tickets sold in nearby café Neffe (yes, not at a ticket counter, and it's quite a mess there, come at least 30 min in advance).

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Worked great for us, make sure to go to the AST bus ticketing station for the Etna (or other excursion) buses. Note that this is different from where the bus stop is. Also make sure that the bus stop says AST not Etnalinea or Interbus as that's a different terminal!
For our Etna trip, the bus was great, very comfy, there was a sales person in the bus but you can simple say no and he will go away. The hike up Etna was pretty difficult (since it's not just a normal hike as it's basically on volcanic sand that very quickly gets in your shoes) but it was perfectly doable. Doing the 30 euro lift is worth it if you feel like having more time at the top or if it's a really hot day.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Took the bus from Catania to ragalna. Turned up half an hour later than it was supposed to. Which isn't too bad considering alot of the buses we tried to get around the city just didn't turn up

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ If you are going to visit Etna:
1. Be early. We came at 7:40 and there already was huge line of people waiting for the bus. Some with previously bought tickets, some not.
2. Tickets. When the driver came, he said that you can't buy tickets in the bus, go buy in the office. Then all hell broke loose - everybody running, searching for the offices. We of course did not have tickets also, and there were so many people, so wondered for a while that even if you managed to buy tickets, you couldn't fit into the bus.. but we bought tickets in this office really fast, and the cashier said that there's ANOTHER BUS!
So we went and one bus was already full, but the second one came and we made it!
But there still were people, who didn't fit into the second bus, so my advice - be early!
3. The drive itself at least for us took around 2 hours, and it didn't stop at Nicolosi. There was no air-conditioning, so keep that in mind.
4. Returning from Etna. Be early. We got in the bus at 4, and since the bus filled up quickly, it left at around 4.15.
All in all good experience ?
