★ ★ ★ ★ ★ In via Domenico Fontana, nel rione I (Monti), si trovano alcune suggestive arcate dell’Acquedotto Claudio.
Questo Acquedotto ha una lunga storia, quasi 2000 anni (iniziato da Caligola nel 38 d.C.), l’acqua parte dalle vicinanze della sorgente dell’Acqua Marcia, ed era lungo quasi 70 km, diversi dei quali a cielo aperto e la maggior parte lungo canali sotterranei.
Il lungo percorso arrivava fino nei pressi di Porta Maggiore, dove vi erano i serbatoi d’acqua e poi le varie diramazioni per i vari luoghi della città.
La parte che si vede in questa via, fa parte dei restauri che sono avvenuti nel III d.C., e anche se solo parzialmente intatte, sono la testimonianza delle grandi capacità ingegneristiche presenti nell’Antica Roma.
 In via Domenico Fontana, in district I (Monti), there are some suggestive arches of the Claudio Aqueduct.
This Aqueduct has a long history, almost 2000 years (started by Caligula in 38 AD), the water starts from the vicinity of the source of the Acqua Marcia, and was almost 70 km long, several of which in the open air and most of them long culverts.
The long route reached as far as Porta Maggiore, where there were the water tanks and then the various branches for the various places in the city.
The part that can be seen in this street is part of the restorations that took place in the third century AD, and even if only partially intact, they are evidence of the great engineering skills present in Ancient Rome.
