★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Very attractive multilevel house with exquisite 19th century upper middle class furnishing and decor. Superb views out across the lake. Guided tours only, with some English translation if necessary. Some road parking on the road up to Castello but in good weather it may be better to park in Albogasio where there is more parking and a pleasant cafe for refreshments, and walk 10 mins along the "old" main road now bypassed by the tunnel.
Easier to find than it might appear on a map!
Guided tours are necessarily small due to room sizes so you may have an extended wait. Admission a little steep at €17 but free to UK National Trust members. No catering on site, or in the immediate area. Lots of lovely places to sit and wait and shelter available in the adjacent church.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Even if you know nothing about the author whose villa this originally was, the place is quite beautiful AND the last owner’s insistence that place be kept just as he left it, with all of his possessions in place, means that it is an incredible window into the world of a certain class of people in the latter half of the 19th c. The villa is beautifully kept and the volunteer docents are amazing.... by all means combine a visit here with lunch at the incredible Osteria De Cin in Claino across the lake. Not to be missed!
