Suggestivo il panorama verso valle. Si possono ammirare anche gli sportivi che praticano parapendio sorvolare il Castello. Il castello è accessibile e si possono vedere le rovine della struttura difensiva ancora in parte in piedi. Nice walk. You can easily park in the village and go up either from the woods along the ancient path or from the forest road. The view towards the valley is suggestive. You can also admire sportsmen who practice paragliding flying over the Castle. The castle is accessible and you can see the ruins of the defensive structure still partially standing.

Sì può lasciare l'auto nell'ampio parcheggio vicino all'ufficio turistico. The view from the castle is really beautiful! The ascent takes about 15 minutes on foot. The path is simple and well marked. Costruito sui resti di una torre di vedetta romana e di un fortilizio longobardo,risale probabilmente all'inizio del XII secolo. La sua epoca d'oro fini' già nel sedicesimo, quando venne abbandonato dai suoi proprietari, che preferirono trasferirsi nel sottostante abitato di Toppo. Ne rimangono oggi solo i ruderi, visitabili gratuitamente. da cui si gode un buon panorama. La mia visita risale al periodo pre-covid. The remains of the Toppo castle are located on top of a hill and can be reached in about twenty minutes, starting from the nearby village of the same name. Built on the remains of a Roman lookout tower and a Lombard fortress, it probably dates back to the early 12th century. Its golden age ended already in the sixteenth century, when it was abandoned by its owners, who preferred to move to the underlying town of Toppo. Today only the ruins remain, which can be visited for free. from which you can enjoy a good view. My visit dates back to the pre-covid period.

Due le possibilità di salita al castello: la prima che probabilmente vi suggerisce Google Maps attraverso una laterale di via castello in realtà non vi lascia modo di parcheggiare e il sentiero, pur di poche centinania di mt, è estremamente ripido e faticoso. Lasciate perdere se non siete in cerca di fatica. In Alternativa, parcheggiando al vicino park gratuito in via Verdi, andando verso est circa 200 mt, si può intraprendere, sulla sx, via della colonia e, in corrispondenza del ponticello, ancora a sx in salita moderata. 10-15 min e sarete arrivati. There are two possibilities to climb to the castle: the first that probably suggests Google Maps through a side street of via castello actually leaves you no way to park and the path, even if only a few hundred meters away, is extremely steep and tiring. Forget it if you are not looking for fatigue. Alternatively, by parking at the nearby free park in via Verdi, going east about 200 meters, you can take via della colonia on the left and, at the bridge, left again in a moderate climb. 10-15 min and you will be there.

Surrounded by polygonal walls, the central nucleus has an impressive look-out and defence tower - “mastio” - and the residence palace walls with fireplaces. Archaeological excavations in 2009 have found medieval ceramics, copper coins, glass fragments (roman period?).

It was probably a fort built in a strategic position for guarding the valley. Indeed, from the Castle you can enjoy the breathtaking view on the plain of Toppo, and if you are so lucky to reach the Castle in a very clear day, you can see the whole plain of Pordenone province, up to the sea. Mid 16th century written witnesses tell us that the Castle at this time had long since been abandoned and it was never used again. After the recent works of restoration and deforestation of the surrounding area, the Castle's well preserved ruins are now freely open to the public.
