The willingness of the merchant Giovanni Boniforte da Concorezzo to show off his wealth left us this little jewel of the mid-15th century. Although the ancient decorations in red and gold that had to show their position from afar are now invisible, the house is very interesting to see for the decorations that signaled to passers-by the goods to which the merchant owed his fortune.

Too bad that it is so badly kept and that a restoration has not been done to put back the small golden leaves that distinguished the house from afar. The building was commissioned by a wealthy textile merchant, Giovanni Boniforte da Concorezzo, who settled in the city in 1455, at the time when Mantua was ruled by Ludovico Terzo Gonzaga. Boniforte was also a supplier to the Gonzaga court and had married a certain Bartolomea Gonzaga.

Ome of the cosiest square I've seen in Italy. More intimate than the equivalent in Verona or Vicenza.

One of the most important places in Mantova. Right in the centre of the city. Very beautiful and recommendable.
