It can probably be said for every church in the city. Gorgeous! It felt small, nestled in between its neighboring buildings.

Seeing a Michelangelo sculpture up close and personal is a special treat. St Maria Sopra Minerva Basilica is yet another Roman gem.

Beautiful church with early Michelangelo statue and beautiful ceiling. Lots of stairs to enter, so not wheelchair accessible at all.

Among several important works of art in the church are Michelangelo's statue Cristo della Minerva (1521) and the late 15th-century (1488–93) cycle of frescos in the Carafa Chapel by Filippino Lippi.

Venerate Catherine of Siena. And see Michelangelo's Risen Jesus.

A walking distance from the Pantheon is the church of St Maria Sopra Minerva, the only Gothic church (as far as I know). Diferent from the baroque churches in Rome, with beautiful arches. It is a case study for anyone interested to know the difference between baroque and gothic churches. Besutifil

Beautiful inside, its one of the predominantly Romanesque style dating back to the 8th century. The interior of the Basilica has three naves and deep apse. Along the walls there is a dense fresco decoration in neo-Gothic style dating back to the 9th century. Inside also is the statue of naked Jesus or Risen Christ by Michelangelo of which the sexual organs are later on covered by a bronze floating laincloth as you see it now. It was somehow considered obscene during that time, hence the cover. It could have been a beautiful statue of Jesus with his leg flexed and head turned back as it creates various impressions when you look at it from different angles.
