È un qualcosa a metà tra opera d'arte e struttura tecnica: è formata da una combinazione di elementi triangolari prefabbricati in metallo, collegati con giunti nodali, disposti in modo da permetterle di sorreggersi da sola, senza bisogno di muri interni o pilastri di sostegno. La sua costruzione si basa sull'estensione di alcuni principi base dei solidi semplici (tetraedro, ottaedro e solidi con numero di facce maggiori) che possano considerarsi approssimazione della sfera. Ne risulta una struttura estremamente leggera ed allo stesso tempo stabile, di basso costo, facile da trasportare e semplice nel montaggio. Coperta con un telo diventa un ambiente utilizzabile per spettacoli off, conferenze, recital e mostre d'arte. Nel tempo ha ospitato eventi artistici di vario interesse: happening, installazioni, performance e concerti. Lo stesso Fuller la inaugurò con una lezione di meccanica razionale e con dimostrazioni di "balletti della mente". Spoletosfera misura circa 21 m. di diametro. Collocata a sud del centro storico della città, di fronte alla Casina degli ippocastani, in un'area verde tra viale Matteotti e viale Martiri della Resistenza, è oggi divenuta parte integrante del paesaggio urbano. The geodesic dome, patented by Fuller in 1954, reproduces the crushed sphericity of the earth (geoid). The result is an extremely light and at the same time stable structure, low cost, easy to transport and simple to assemble. Covered with a cloth, it becomes an environment that can be used for off shows, conferences, recitals and art exhibitions. Over time it has hosted artistic events of various interest: happenings, installations, performances and concerts. Fuller himself inaugurated it with a lesson in rational mechanics and with demonstrations of "ballets of the mind". Spoletosfera measures approximately 21 m. in diameter. Located south of the historic center of the city, opposite the Casina degli ippocastani, in a green area between viale Matteotti and viale Martiri della Resistenza, it has now become an integral part of the urban landscape.

M	Marlon Sardini on Google ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Spoleto is an amazing town, and absolutely worth a visit. Sadly, due to not so recent earthquakes and the notorious Italian mismanagement, some locations feel abandoned. As of December 2018 this piece of art looks more like part of a construction site.
