The church of San Ponziano di Spoleto (patron saint of the city) was built between the 11th and 13th centuries, on an early Christian cemetery area, outside the city walls, on the Ciciano hill, in Romanesque style. Fortunately, its exterior retains the original style, which cannot be said of the intent of the church which has undergone several alterations. A real gem, known and visited by a few, is its crypt, with beautiful frescoes, which we were able to appreciate even more thanks to the interesting interpretation provided by Mr. Giuseppe who kindly accompanied us in this discovery.

100 e lode!!
Church a little off the beaten path, but close to free parking and escalators. There is a volunteer who explained every little detail to us without ever getting bored. 100 and praise !!

Visitata insieme a San Salvatore.
Visited together with San Salvatore. The crypt is very beautiful, but above all the good guy who guided us and explained to us the characteristics and history of the church. Place to be enhanced and u perhaps out of the tourist circuit of Spoleto.

Good accommodation in the renovated monastery and usable independently from the part reserved for the nuns. Unmissable church. The façade and the crypt are superb, with the Madonna seated in 1300, Christ in Ypsilon and a beautiful Archangel Michael. Nice explanation from the volunteers for the visit.

The crypt (well, subterranean area) steals the show. Great preserved murals.

Interesting exemple of roman antics remain integrated into early christian building just adjacent to a monastery. A bit weird that a guy in the church is asking for donation.

A good point of departure for our visit to Vallo di Nera and Spoleto. Absolute rest in the monastery, a modernized hotel with the historic structure intact. We enjoyed breakfasts as a first family gathering and enjoying the good, friendly service and cake! Quiet, a spiritual treat and history screaming at us. We enjoyed the good trip advise at the gates from the man who would only admit to being one who helped the nuns, but seemed to read from some universal library of knowledge Clean, good value for money. If you come at night, beware of the small sign on the right hand side of the road, as your navigation system likely will send you to the abbey further up in the hills. A call to the front desk will always sort things out. A treasure of a place. If you need TV in the room, this is not the place. For everyone else, this is it.
