Overall, a nice hotel in a good location that was easily walkable all over Florence. The hotel itself could use a little bit of an update as it felt a little bit outdated and run down. For example, when the door to our room closed behind us, it caused the light fixture in our entry way to fall from the ceiling, leaving the lightbulb hanging by exposed wires. We notified the front desk but they did not fix it during our stay. As others have mentioned, they turn the AC off during the off season so our room was far too warm when we were trying to sleep or get ready for the day. We slept with the sliding glass door open to keep it cool which resulted in mosquitos entering our room and feasting on us all night. Last negative remark; We scheduled a day trip wine tour through the concierge that we somewhat regretting. The guide was nice, the van was comfortable and clean; however, it felt like a tourist trap. He would only take us where he wanted to go. When we got there, you can see he only brings people here as he is buddies with the staff there and with their dog. The winery itself didn't feel like an operating winery and their prices were ridiculous in comparison to other area wineries we'd been to. When we didn't purchase any of the overly priced wine, the guide was silent for the remainder of the day and rushed to get us home. As a result of this experience, we opted not to book excursions through the concierge and to find ourselves a driver outside of this hotel which resulted in a much more personalized and authentic experience.

41. FORTY ONE!! The number of mosquitoes infesting our top-floor suite when we checked in, most gorged with blood of the prior occupants! 27 I killed one by one the night we checked in, 13 the next day and 1 the second night when it bit up my face while sleeping. Beyond exhausted after traveling since the previous morning to get to Florence, we arrived to find our room not available due to the current occupant doing a late check out at FIVE PM (normally latest checkout is 4PM even for Marriott top members, which we are for 22 years! We are also top chairman's club members with Marriott!) We were told that the hotel could give us a room to freshen up while we waited or even better we could just go out for a walk, see the sights, have dinner and return to our room which would be ready. We opted for a room to freshen up, went out to dinner and came back to find the room not quite ready at almost 7PM! After finally getting into the room, we discovered the mosquito infestation when we opened the drapes wider and a literal cloud of mosquitoes came flying out. Why we didn't run away you wonder? We wonder as well... We prepaid in full and nonrefundable, one reason.. but the real reason was we were exhausted and had been awake for a day and a half. Also, this was supposedly the last suite available, hence why we had to wait. Turns out that the hotel has a sunny side and a shade side. We unluckily got the shade side. Unluckily due to the mosquito infestation, because we otherwise prefer the shade to sun. There's the ugly, more ugly continues. We also lost a bag during the check-in process. We thought we left it in the car which we valet parked at €40 a night, but the hotel staff checked the car and stated no bag was found. Not sure how a bag goes missing between checking in and parking lot in a few hours but understand a common experience in Italy. What was taken? Fortunately only a few jackets but €500 worth. Not new, but we must spend €500 to replace them now. So that's how our €800 a night suite (with taxes) was... Thanks but no thanks. We hope to hear from Marriott corporate about all of this but expect complete silence. The hotel is otherwise well located and recently renovated (or at least in appearance). The breakfast was very good. See two nice things after the horror. I seriously doubt we are the first or last to experience a horrible mosquito infestation here (AND NO we are NOT believing the mosquito infestation is a strange first time experience for the hotel as the staff states - NOT believing that for a second!!!!!!! Staff needs to be alert and attentive and not have excuses about how we should have asked for mosquito spray. SERIOUSLY? For SHAME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Shame on you for lying!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! We never, NEVER left the balcony doors open, the mosquitoes were present upon check-in. Again, don't blame guests for a problem you know exists, as per multiple prior reviews!!!!!!! These very serious issues aside, Sina villa Medici is a nice, historic hotel (formerly the Sant'Anna sul Prato monastery built in the 19th century) in an ideal location close to the best sites in all directions. Perhaps, this idyllic location is why the hotel has lost it's focus on the high standards expected of a 4-star hotel, even though completely renovated in 2017, sort of like the celebrity restaurant with the million dollar views that phones it in and serves mediocre meals. Speaking of meals, again, the breakfast was a clear bright spot of the day. Friendly staff at the breakfast, good cappuccinos, good selection, plenty of seating choices. In true Italian style no rushing us in and out. We appreciated this as the breakfasts along the way during our stays are highlights we look forward to. And yes, I do know that the hotel is supposed to be 5-star luxury, but simply not the case at the moment. Not sure if it meets the 4-star standard at present.

Over priced. Out dated. Unkept. This hotel is well below Marriott standards and not worth the price. Although a mile from central Florence it is located in a sketchy area with homeless sitting at the green space at the entry drive of the hotel. For 350€+ you can and should do better elsewhere.

A great location, a very short walk to all Florence’s main sites. Room was good - upgraded through Bonvoy to a Superior room which was a good size and had a nice balcony. Was impressed watching another couple’s check-in experience: their booking wasn’t sent by their travel agent, but they were given their room with a ‘don’t worry, we will sort out’, which would give me confidence. I would give 5 stars but for two things: (1) the room was very hot, as the AC wasn’t working. Apparently the AC is off because it’s no longer summer…but we had to sleep with the balcony door open and there was a fair bit of noise from revellers downstairs. And (2) I felt my request for a late check out was dealt with very rudely. Although the same staff member was very polite later…perhaps it was a bad moment. All in all, I would stay here again in Florence. It was a quiet area close to the centre, and a nice hotel overall.

Sina Villa Medici was the perfect hotel for us! Located walking distance to all the main attractions in Florence, it offered top notch amenities and great service. They let us check in early as they had a room available. Even the basic room is spacious and comes with everything you'll need. The staff here were all super friendly and accommodating and the breakfast was some of the best food we ate in the city. Thanks for a great stay!

This is an old establishment that claims to have five stars. It is three or four stars tops. The room was a suite. We had some issues about the upgrade, being a Marriott Titanium also using Suite Upgrade nights. The suite itself was quite nice and had wonderful balconies but every night we were disturbed (and bit!) by mosquitoes even though we never slept with windows open. The pool was unheated, so for display purposes only. Breakfast was excellent and has great staff. The gym was open by appointment only, a hassle, who can prebook gym at a hotel? No spa available. The service was typically Italian. Upon checkout I raised the issue about mosquitoes and the response was: “Did you ask for a spray at reception?”. No apologies nor discount provided. In sum. This privately owned Italian hotel has become a member of the Autograph collection by Marriott in order to attract American travelers, and they have succeeded in attracting them, but they are failing in providing Marriott level five star service.

Excellent stay at the Sina Villa Medici… loved the quiet location, the atmosphere of the hotel and the amazing service. In fact, the service made the hotel… very attentive and helpful. We felt totally coddled, and especially enjoyed our time in the lobby bar thanks to a wonderful staff. Can’t say enough….would definitely go back.

We just checked in to this beautiful historic hotel in Florence. The staff was extremely personable and treated us in such an outstanding way it made us feel like we were home. We are staying in the Florence suite and are blown away by the views and size of the suite and balcony with jacuzzi. Feeling the jet lag from travel we decided to get a few drinks in the bar and a pizza. The magic started with the bartender making the BEST Manhattan we have ever had and we have traveled the world. I’m not sure if it’s the type of sugar he mixes in or the cherries and bourbon but it was spectacular! The pizza was beyond delicious but more than all of that it was the appreciation the staff at this hotel shows it’s customers. It’s been a very difficult and trying year and a half for Italy and as Americans it was our pleasure traveling to this magical country to show our support and this hotel goes above and beyond to make your time here unforgettable. ♥️?????
