Se si è da quelle parti consiglio vivamente di farci un salto.
In più, curiosità, è il luogo dove è stato girato il film Pane amore e fantasia, con Vittorio de Sica e la Lollobrigida.
You can enjoy a breathtaking view to say the least. The small town of Castel San Pietro Romano is very nice, well kept and clean.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ In tantissimi paesi italiani, arroccati su brulle colline, spuntano (più o meno diroccate) le rovine di antichi castelli o fortezze; spoglie ormai mute di passato splendore e di potenza militare ed economica. Spesso, e volentieri, fra queste mura e su questi sassi è passata la storia: anche quella con la esse maiuscola; ma oggi sono soltanto un mucchio di pietrame o poco altro.
Uno di questi siti si può visitare nel piccolo borgo di Castel San Pietro Romano, nella cosiddetta Rocca dei Colonna. Questo luogo fu testimone delle lotte fra la famiglia Colonna e il Papato, e vi furono imprigionati personaggi quali Jacopone e da Todi (che qui compose lo "Stabat Mater") e Corradino di Svevia. Un buon pretesto per fare una passeggiata al paese, che fu - tra l'altro - set cinematografico di molti film di Totò e De Sica e sulla fortezza da cui si gode un panorama niente male sul quadrante occidentale di Roma e la sottostante valle della Cannucceta. Una meta da aggiungere, assolutamente, alle nostre gite fuori-porta.
In many Italian villages, perched on barren hills, the ruins of ancient castles or fortresses appear (more or less in ruins); now mute remains of past splendor and military and economic power. Often, and willingly, history has passed between these walls and on these stones: even that with a capital S; but today they are just a pile of stones or little else.
One of these sites can be visited in the small village of Castel San Pietro Romano, in the so-called Rocca dei Colonna. This place witnessed the struggles between the Colonna family and the Papacy, and personalities such as Jacopone and da Todi (who composed the "Stabat Mater" here) and Corradino di Svevia were imprisoned there. A good excuse to take a walk in the town, which was - among other things - a film set for many films by Totò and De Sica and on the fortress from which you can enjoy a pretty good view of the western quadrant of Rome and the Cannucceta valley below. . A destination to add, absolutely, to our trips out of town.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ This castle or "castella" is remarkably well preserved partly due to recovery efforts in the late 90's early 2000's. Sadly, it seems to be falling by the wayside again. The views from the ramparts are breathtaking.
