Ristorante Crotto dei Platani

INEDIBLE FOOD!!! STAY AWAY!! Although it has a nice view, the food is from below ok to completely inedible. On top of that, all waiters that served us had BO that I could smell every time they were around (it was a hot day, but it does not excuse a lack of hygiene). My husband ordered the fish tartare with truffle - the fish had NO TASTE AT ALL, there was not even a pinch of salt. What a pity, as it was a fresh fish! And his ossobucco was super dry, looked super unappetizing, like someone vomited on top, and it was simply inedible. My husband had one bite and left the rest on the plate (see photo). He said that the risotto tasted like it was microwaved and left 10 minutes outside. My crab egg pasta tasted like a very eggy instant noodle, but I could still eat (it was 2:30pm and we were very hungry). The salad I had as an appetizer was very ugly, with cucumber pieces cut in very non-uniform ways, that I did not even want to take a picture of it and waste storage space of my phone. (By the way I never ate such a bitter cucumber). But coming back to my husband's dish, even after we told the waiter that he could not eat the dish (as the waiter remarked himself, seeing that the plate was left practically untouched - the photo I took was after that first and only bite), there was no apology whatsoever; the manager never came to talk with us (which means that they know that their food is horrible, so it is not a real shock), there was not even an offer of coffee as a courtesy, it was simply appalling. We paid every item we ordered (bill also in photo), and when we paid EUR 100 in cash (the bill was EUR 96), we waited 10 minutes for the change (as we did not want to pay any extra amount, having to leave a restaurant hungry and totally disappointed), but it never came. We had to ASK the change to be given to us. I can only assume that all the good reviews are paid for, as it was honestly the worst ever experience I had in a restaurant, and if I could I would give negative 10 stars. A total disgrace.

Nice view at the lake, service was also good. Food was not that good overall. Some dishes like chevice and passion fruit chocolate cake were good, osumbouko and tiramisu were not good at all. for the food quite expensive at least the view and the ambiente were worth the extra euros

Spectacular view of the lake and snow-capped mountain. Awesome service, the food was decent but nothing to shout about....

I came here with friends expecting a great experience. While the view from to the lake and the ambiance is really good, the relationship between food and price is not. I took the lamb for 33€, and it was SUPER small… 17€ for ice cream with baileys… I will definitely not come back. Also, there was one waiter who took the bottle of water when it was still half of it, and also took the dishes of my friends while I was still eating… which was the rush?!

This food and experience are incredible. Worth every cent. From a beautiful view, to impeccable service our meal was extraordinary. In the pictures you'll see salmon tartare with truffles, risotto with truffles, osso buco with a crispy saffron rice cake, chocolate passion fruit souffle, and creme brulee. This restaurant is spectacular. I first visited this place in 2017 and have been coming here ever since. The setting is beyond gorgeous. The building and the site are stunning. The terrace is beautiful. Most importantly, their food is incredibly memorable. Every single dish, from antipasti to main dishes, everything was scrumptious and just right. The service was unobtrusive, one of those “invisible” ones when dishes appear and disappear like by magic. Highly, highly recommend.

Amazing experience we had here. Went out for a date with my boyfriend while our trip to Lake Como and had one of the nicest experiences. The view to the lake was stunning, very romantic and the restaurant is very classy one. The cuisine and wines are also super nice and tasty! We tried best pasta and tiramisu?

Not the easiest place to get to from Como with public transport, but absolutely worth the journey. It's a 20 minute walk from the ferry terminal in Argegno or a 1 min walk from the bus stop in Brieno. Parking is also available directly at the restaurant. The restaurant itself has two beautiful outside sections directly at the water and one inside with equally stunning views. And the food... Simply delicious ?
