Venice is a city (in Italian: Venezia - Venezia, in Venesia, and in German: Venedig - Venice), a city in northern Italy, the capital of the Veneto region, and the capital of the Province of Venice. Venice is the largest city in the region in terms of population and area. An estimated population of 271 thousand people. The city consists of two separate parts, namely the center (which contains a lake of the same name), Mestre and the mainland. For more than a thousand years, the city has been the capital of the "Republic of Venice" and was known as the Queen of the Adriatic Sea. Due to its cultural and artistic heritage, and the region of its lakes, the city is one of the most beautiful cities in the world that is sponsored by UNESCO, which made it the second Italian city after Rome in terms of high tourist flow from different parts of the outside. The location of Venice in Italy The city consists of several islands connected by bridges and the city overlooks the Adriatic Sea. The city is considered one of the most important Italian cities and one of the most beautiful cities in Italy because of its historic buildings, most of which date back to the Renaissance in Italy and its multiple water channels, making it unique in the world. The city's historical center is located on four kilometers of land on 118 islands of the Veneto beach area. The unique view and the existing art treasures make it a distinguished city in the world. It is crossed by more than 150 channels [?]. Venice is divided into 6 provinces, which are Palerino, Padua, Rovigo, Venice, Verona and Vicenza. Venice was self-governing during the Middle Ages and thereafter and it was called the Republic of Venice and is considered one of the most important commercial ports of Europe during the Crusades and has a huge naval power. Venice During the Fourth Crusade called by the Pope of the Vatican Innocent III in 1189, the Ruler of Venice, the Duke Enrico Dandulo, made a deal with the Crusaders, so he agreed to arrange ships for them if they helped the Venetians to occupy the town of Zara in the Croatian province of Dalmatia, before the Crusaders were seized, and in 1202 he returned The Duke to exploit the Crusaders to achieve his purposes. Instead of transporting them to Jerusalem, the capital of Palestine, he headed their ships to Constantinople, capital of the Byzantine Empire, where Emperor Isaac Angelus had been thrown out of the throne because he was encouraging the Venetian trade with the East. For an emperor to the throne, however, a violent revolution soon erupted in the city, in which Anglican was killed. Dandulo succeeded in seizing the best commercial sites for Venice. After its occupation of the most important islands in the Aegean Sea and its control of the Bosphorus and the Dardanelles Strait, it made the Republic of Venice one of the most powerful countries in Europe.

Bridge near the notable San Giorgio dei Greci, with the leaning Greek Orthodox church tower in the sestiere (neighborhood) of Castello, Venice, northern Italy. It was the center of the Scuola dei Greci, the Confraternity of the Greeks in Venice. For centuries, despite the close ties of Venice to the Byzantine world (Venice has been part of the Byzantine Empire), the Greek Orthodox rite was not permitted in Venice. In 1498, the Greek community in Venice gained the right to found the Scuola de San Nicolò dei Greci, a confraternity which aided members of that community. In 1539, after protracted negotiations, the papacy allowed the construction of the church of San Giorgio, financed by a tax on all ships from the Orthodox world. Construction was started by Sante Lombardo, and from 1548, by Giannantonio Chiona. The belltower was built in 1592. The interior has a monument to Gabriele Seviros (1619) by Baldassarre Longhena. The dome of the church was frescoed with the Last Judgement (1589–93) by Giovanni Kyprios.

The charming Ponte dei Greci is located in a quiet part of the Castello sestiere. Right next to the beautiful Chiesa di San Giorgio, dei Greci. It bridges the Rio di San Lorenzo on one side and the Rio dei Greci on the other, and connects the Fondamenta San Lorenzo and the Calle de la Madonna. Ponte dei Greci is a stone bridge, the construction is made of brick and stone, and the fence is made of iron with beautiful ornaments. The history of the Greek presence in Venice is interesting so here are a few words. The fall of the Byzantine Empire in 1453 caused an intensified Greek diaspora in the Venetian Republic. The number of Greeks grew with the spread of Turkish advance to other Greek areas, and the Greeks thus became the most important foreign component in Venice. In 1498 the Council of Ten authorized them to establish a school or fraternity (like those of other religious orders). The fraternity was originally based in the church of San Biagio, under the auspices of San Nicola di Mira. During 1511, the Council of Ten approved a concession to build the oldest church in San Giorgio and the most famous Greek church in the West. It was built from 1539 to 1573 thanks to financial contributions from members of the Brotherhood. Doge Leonardo Loredan arranged for the celebration of the Orthodox liturgy in this church, while the Pope, for his part, granted independence from the Latin patriarch. The style of building the church was in the spirit of the Renaissance, and the builders and architects were Lombardo and Chiona. The interior of the church is magnificent.
