★ ★ ★ ★ ★ A beautiful stone bridge, which was originally built in the early 400s from wood. In the 600s it was rebuilt of stone, then in the 700s a brick fence was added. It bridges the Rio della Frescada and connect the sestiere Santa Croce with the sestiere Dorsoduro. The name comes from the patrician family Dalla Frescada, who came from Istria. The family owned the Palace here on the canal in the parish of St. Pantalon. The mentioned building is the one in the archaic style, which rises at the end of the "Fondamenta della Frescada", and which extends along the "Calle della Frescada", a site not far from the church "S. Tomà", but once subject, as now, to the parish of S. Pantaleone. The Dalla Frescada family had other houses nearby, but the last landlord Marco Dalla Frescada, being childless and having no heirs, he decided that all his property with all his other estates directed towards the opening of a new hospice for the poverty people. Traces of the hospital are visible in the present-day church of San Lio.
