★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Il Pian del Lago era un vasto pianoro sito alle spalle della cima della Montagnola e disteso tra questa e il sistema dei crateri sommitali. Deve il nome ad una curiosità naturale che avveniva in Primavera, al discioglimento dei ghiacciai invernali: la nascita di un piccolo deposito di acqua, esteso a sufficienza per essere nominato Lago, il più alto in Italia. Questo ambiente umido chiaramente aveva vita breve, in quanto il pianoro tornava ad essere totalmente asciutto nei mesi estivi.
La sua estensione si è notevolmente ridotta a partire dal 2001, quando una intensa attività stromboliana ha generato il "Cratere del Laghetto", esattamente sul sito dove si estendeva il modesto ambiente lacustre, così che oggi del fenomeno naturale non rimane che la memoria.
 Pian del Lago was a vast plateau behind the Montagnola peak and stretched between this and the summit crater system. It owes its name to a natural curiosity that occurred in spring, to the dissolution of winter glaciers: the birth of a small water deposit, extended enough to be named Lago, the highest in Italy. This humid environment clearly had a short life, as the plateau returned to being totally dry in the summer months.
Its extension has been considerably reduced since 2001, when an intense Strombolian activity generated the "Cratere del Laghetto", exactly on the site where the modest lake environment extended, so that today only the memory remains of the natural phenomenon.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Abbiamo fatto l’escursione sull ‘Etna! Alla stazione Nicolosi abbiamo preso la funivia e proseguito con la jeep sul vulcano emozioni fantastiche perché il paesaggio sembrava lunare .. i miei bambini si sono divertiti tantissimo non siamo potuti salire perché era pericoloso si sentivano i forti rumori del vulcano con la nebbia che usciva dal cratere ... infatti poche ore dopo in serata il vulcano ha iniziato ad eruttare !! Siamo stati davvero fortunati !!
We did the excursion on Etna! At Nicolosi station we took the cable car and continued with the jeep on the volcano fantastic emotions because the landscape seemed to be lunar .. my children had a lot of fun we could not go up because it was dangerous you could hear the loud noises of the volcano with the fog coming out of the crater ... in fact a few hours later in the evening the volcano started to erupt !! We were really lucky !!

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ To okolica gdzie najwyżej mogłem dotrzeć (ze względu na aktywność Etny). Dalej strażnicy parku narodowego już zakazali. Lecz i ta okolica dawała fantastyczne wyobrażenie potęgi wulkanu. A wszystko widziane jak na czarno-białym filmie. Rzecz zjawiskowa!
This is the area where I could reach the most (due to the activity of Etna). Next, the rangers of the national park have already banned it. But this area also gave a fantastic idea of the power of the volcano. And everything seen in a black and white film. Phenomenal thing!

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Punto di arrivo del pulmino che dalla stazione della funivia porta i turisti al limite visitabile del vulcano. Oltre non si può andare per motivi di sicurezza. Le guide vulcanologhe fanno poi fare un piccolo giro a piedi spiegando le caratteristiche principali dell’ambiente. È un paesaggio “lunare” veramente unico e affascinante.
Meta obbligatoria se si vuole davvero visitare il vulcano da vicino.
Arrival point of the minibus that from the cable car station takes tourists to the visitable limit of the volcano. You cannot go further for security reasons. The volcanologist guides then take a short walk around explaining the main characteristics of the environment. It is a truly unique and fascinating “lunar” landscape.
A must if you really want to visit the volcano up close.
