Beautiful church

The founding year is unknown: we know however that already in 1329 the functions had been transferred from Santa Croce to another church located downstream, dedicated to the Saints Salvatore and Giacomo, corresponding to the current parish. The building underwent numerous restorations and alterations over the centuries, in particular between 1745 and 1750, when it was enlarged to increase its capacity; again in the second half of the 1800s and at the beginning of the 1900s the building was renovated. The façade, in Romanesque-Baroque style, was entirely rebuilt in 1908. The interior with three naves has a central frescoed vault with valuable paintings from 1908, executed by the painter Giovanni Silvestro da Montanaro, superimposed on the 1821 paintings of the painter Michelangelo Bianchi. The two choirs were built by the Provost Don Faletti in 1882 to expand the presbytery. AltarThe ex-altar of the Madonna del Rosario presents fifteen wooden panels depicting the mysteries of the rosary, already mentioned in the visit of Mons. Asinari in 1647. Above the high altar there is the oval altarpiece of 1897 depicting the Assumption, San Giacomo and St. John the Evangelist of the painter Stornone d'Ivrea, as of the same artist is the canvas of 1890 reproducing "The transit of St. Joseph". The statue of San Giacomo dates back to 1886, that of the Madonna del Rosario is from 1894 and the beautiful wooden statue of the dead Christ is probably of the fifteenth century.
