Da sempre meta di pellegrinaggi, è stata eretta a parrocchia nella seconda metà del '700 e, nella seconda metà del '900, elevata a santuario diocesano dedicato al culto popolare di santa Lucia. Amministrativamente la parrocchia è compresa nel terzo decanato dell'arcidiocesi di Napoli. The minor pontifical basilica of the sanctuary of Santa Lucia a Mare is a monumental church of Naples, constituted as a parish and at the same time having the dignity of a sanctuary and, more recently, decreed a minor basilica. The basilica-sanctuary is located in the Santa Lucia district, within the historic center of Naples. Always a pilgrimage destination, it was erected as a parish in the second half of the 1700s and, in the second half of the 1900s, elevated to a diocesan sanctuary dedicated to the popular cult of Saint Lucia. Administratively, the parish is included in the third decanate of the archdiocese of Naples.
