★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Dall'esterno passa quasi inosservata perché stretta tra due palazzi, posta in un angolo, così com'è. Ma basta appena varcare l'uscio per accorgersi che dentro è meravigliosa e maestosa. Nel periodo natalizio si allestiva anche un bellissimo presepe con una ingegnosa variazione dell'illuminazione, che simulava il susseguirsi del giorno e della notte, mediante diverse soluzioni di acqua e sale che funzionavano meglio di un moderno potenziometro. Che poesia.
From the outside it goes almost unnoticed because it is squeezed between two buildings, placed in a corner, as it is. But it is enough as soon as you cross the door to realize that inside it is marvelous and majestic. During the Christmas period a beautiful nativity scene was also set up with an ingenious lighting variation, which simulated the succession of the day and the night, using different solutions of water and salt that worked better than a modern potentiometer. What a poem.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ A igreja de Santa Caterina em Chiaia (também conhecida como Santa Caterina Martire) era originalmente uma pequena capela familiar. Foi cedida à ordem franciscana que a expandiu em 1600. A igreja atual é o resultado de uma série de reconstruções, incluindo o estilo barroco na sequência a um grave terremoto em 1732. A fachada tem no topo uma representação do martírio de Santa Catarina de Alexandria. A entrada principal é encimada por uma placa comemorativa da restauração da fachada em 1904. As obras de arte no interior são dedicadas principalmente à vida de Santa Catarina.
The church of Santa Caterina in Chiaia (also known as Santa Caterina Martire) was originally a small family chapel. It was ceded to the Franciscan order that expanded it in 1600. The current church is the result of a series of reconstructions, including the Baroque style following a severe earthquake in 1732. The façade has at the top a representation of the martyrdom of Saint Catherine of Alexandria . The main entrance is surmounted by a plaque commemorating the restoration of the façade in 1904. The works of art in the interior are mainly dedicated to the life of Santa Catarina.

Beautiful Church in Chiaia, neither small nor large and well cared for. Available and kind in the sacristy for weddings. Parking not far from the church for a fee.
