L'area del palazzo, originariamente, era con molta probabilità parte delle proprietà veneziane di palazzo Venezia. L'immobile venne riedificato nel XVI secolo nello stile rinascimentale napoletano dai conti Tufarelli. Ai Tufarelli appartenne villa Tufarelli, già villa Avallone, a San Giorgio a Cremano. Ulteriori cessioni della Repubblica di Venezia ai Tufarelli nel XVIII secolo portarono ad un rinnovo architettonico dell'intero palazzo attribuito a Nicola Tagliacozzi Canale: infatti, sono riconducibili a questo periodo la scala, un secondo cortile e le decorazioni a stucco.
Si accede al palazzo per mezzo di un androne decorato a stucco con stemma familiare dipinto sulla volta; alle pareti si notano ancora gli anelli dove si attaccavano i cavalli. Il cortile presenta una notevole scala aperta del XVIII secolo di ottima fattura, mentre, tramite un collegamento, si accede al cortile piccolo.
Palazzo Tufarelli is a monumental palace in Naples located in via Benedetto Croce.
The palace area was originally probably part of the Venetian properties of Palazzo Venezia. The property was rebuilt in the 16th century in the Neapolitan Renaissance style by the Tufarelli counts. To the Tufarelli belonged villa Tufarelli, formerly villa Avallone, in San Giorgio a Cremano. Further transfers of the Republic of Venice to the Tufarelli family in the 18th century led to an architectural renovation of the entire palace attributed to Nicola Tagliacozzi Canale: in fact, the staircase, a second courtyard and stucco decorations can be traced back to this period.
You enter the building by means of an entrance hall decorated with stucco with a family coat of arms painted on the vault; on the walls you can still see the rings where the horses attached themselves. The courtyard has a remarkable 18th century open staircase of excellent workmanship, while, through a connection, you access the small courtyard.
