C	Carmela Papappicco on Google ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Questa splendida Cattedrale del 1153, con Campanile del 1234, è costituita di complesse forme romaniche pugliesi-siciliane con elementi islamici e benedettini. Ha al suo interno, colonne romane, e un prezioso pergamo del 1600 con pezzi duecenteschi, ed è caratterizzato da interessanti effetti ottici ottenuti con l'assembramento di pietre dai diversi colori. Ha pianta a croce latina, con tre Navate divise da 18 colonne sovrastate da archi a tutto sesto. Il Transetto, rialzato, è formato da tre Absidi affiancate. Nella facciata principale, come in quelle laterali, le aperture sono sottolineate da grandi cornici in marmo bianco, che si evidenziano sul fondo in tufo lavico. Tuttavia, l'interno è privo di decorazioni a causa dei restauri effettuati agli inizi del Novecento, ma si trovano affreschi e sepolcri di personaggi e vescovi vissuti nel XIV secolo. Mentre sull'altare maggiore, si eleva un bellissimo Crocifisso ligneo del Cinquecento. L'esterno, è molto interessante, con cupola laterale a intarsi orientaleggianti e archi intrecciati, e Campanile con 5 ordini sovrapposti. Questa Cattedrale, racchiude davvero, un fascino esotico, specialmente al suo esterno, che va visitata in primissimo luogo, trovandosi in gita a Caserta Vecchia! This splendid Cathedral of 1153, with Bell Tower of 1234, is made up of complex Romanesque Apulian-Sicilian forms with Islamic and Benedictine elements. It has inside, Roman columns, and a precious pulpit of the 1600s with thirteenth-century pieces, and is characterized by interesting optical effects obtained with the gathering of stones of different colors. It has a Latin cross plan, with three naves divided by 18 columns surmounted by round arches. The raised transept is made up of three apses side by side. In the main facade, as in the lateral ones, the openings are underlined by large white marble frames, which are highlighted on the bottom in lava tuff. However, the interior is devoid of decorations due to the restorations carried out at the beginning of the twentieth century, but there are frescoes and tombs of characters and bishops who lived in the fourteenth century. While on the high altar, there is a beautiful wooden Crucifix of the sixteenth century. The exterior is very interesting, with a lateral dome with oriental inlays and intertwined arches, and a bell tower with 5 superimposed orders. This Cathedral truly contains an exotic charm, especially on the outside, which must be visited in the first place, being on a trip to Caserta Vecchia!

The square is beautiful and characteristic. The Romanesque cathedral is open until 10 pm. A walk is desirable. The square is a limited traffic area but residents are allowed to park. Visitors are invited by abusive parkers to leave their cars in open spaces.

A seguito dei restauri degli anni 20 furono eliminate sovrapposizioni settecentesche. Bello è certamente il pulpito e i capitelli di spolglio. Nella zona presbiterale un pavimento di tipo cosmatesco. La chiesa è conservata benissimo...qualche dubbio sulla scelta del pavimento in pietra frutto di un restauro contemporaneo. Per il resto tutto il borgo merita certamente una visita. The pulpit and the spolglio capitals are certainly beautiful. In the presbyteral area a Cosmatesque type floor.
