I can't believe that a hospital like this legally exists. Most of the nurses and especially the head doctor at First Aid (S.Marra) are extremely rude and not caring toward their patients. No protocol is being followed. Doctors orders get ignored or forgotten by the nurses immediately. You have to flag down every nurse for the "pain management" that was prescribed 2 hours ago, even though the patent is in the main waiting room (which they walk through ever 5 minutes) groaning in pain for everyone to see and hear. They literally walked over them. If you get told: you'll get that "in 10 minutes". You will NEVER get it unless you constantly ask them for it. They all tell lies. Constant lies: "You'll be next", "doctor will be right with you", we'll call you when we're done/ when it's ready", "this will only take 10 minutes", results will be ready in 15 minutes"

On the first day of a 12-day vacation in Italy I fell and broke my leg (tibial plateau fracture) while on a boat in Venice. When the boat docked, the captain told our escort (in Italian) that he couldn’t take me to the ER and my husband would have to carry me about 1000 yards to another boat! I was in agony with pain. Finally got to this hospital that you toured and NO ONE spoke English or attempted to. We figured out through our tour guide that my leg was broken and that I needed surgery ASAP. Also that I had to spend THREE weeks here in bed! We had no choice. Took me to a barren 4-bed ward (again no English) with manual beds and no privacy curtains. It took us awhile to realize you have to bring in your own liquids (water, etc)! I was taken for an MRI, etc. then surgery was two days later. My husband said that they had me sign a consent for two pints of blood while I was just out of recovery and not coherent! I was totally at their mercy. The second week there, a patient in the room went into respiratory distress and the entire ER team came in to treat her in front of us! She died! No family is allowed in the room when the doctors do rounds so my husband never got to talk to them! My insurance company sent a rescue nurse (Thank God!) to fly home with us and the hospital would not give her any of my records or X-rays so when I got home my Ortho had nothing to go by. Thankfully he said the surgery looked good. They also left the catheter in for the three weeks I was there so I came home with a terrible UTI. Glad you were impressed but a warning to anyone going there that’s not an Italian citizen….beware!

Probably one of the most beautiful hospital entrances, albeit unique with the water front emergency entrance. Desk person Aldo was very helpful and we appreciated his linguistic diversity too. However, don’t expect to see a doctor for at least eight hours because everybody was sick before you and they only have two ER doctors at any time.

Have just returned from Venice during which time I had to make a visit to an emergency A&E unit due to severe abdominal pains. Prior to making my visit I had time to review options and read previous reviews. As it was a Sunday the only hospital open locally was SS Giovanni and I was unnerved to read the mostly disparaging reviews that had been written. However with no alternative I hesitantly made my way there. In contrast to other reviewers I found the service exemplary. OK, the receptionist did not speak perfect English but she was more than capable of checking me in and summoning immediate help (by comparison which hospital in the UK could you go to speaking Italian and receive such an effective arrival?). I was now doubled up with abdominal pain and was given first priority which resulted in a doctor speaking perfect English coming to my aid within only a very few minutes. He was able to diagnose my likely problem and made arrangements for me to be transferred to and thoroughly examined in a private room by a second doctor, again speaking perfect English . This second doctor quickly ascertained my medical needs and immediately commenced treatment. Fortunately my condition was relatively straight forward to correct and I was soon recuperating having meet a few other staff who were all attentive, friendly and able to speak very good English. Within a few hours I was discharged and was able to thank a few of the staff who had made my visit painless, literally. In these few words I have difficulty praising the effectiveness of the hospital staff adequately, 5 stars no doubt, particularly in view of the reviews I had read prior to arrival. My heartfelt thanks go out to all at the Hospital SS Giovanni e Paolo who made my visit painless.

The staff at ER were efficient and compassionate, some spoke and understood English as well. Psychiatrist was very patient and did her best to help. Surprisingly we were given some food as well (visit was during lunch time).

They made us wait 3 hours for an antigen test. It was crowded and nobody kept safe distancing. People kept skipping us in the queue. After we got inside, there was a cat running in the waiting room. Pure chaos and despair. And we paid for that 22 euros each.

Worst experience ever in a Hospital... More than two hours waiting in the emergency waiting room. The ratio is 1.5 patients per hour because we were 5 people in the waiting room and it took more than 3hours to go in and see the doctor... Which is great when you're on holidays for 4 days in Venice! I recommend not coming here if you are a foreigner... Try private clinics or risk dying here...

Extremely poor service. We were waiting for a couple of hours and no one spoke good english not paid any attentition to tell us how much time its going to take to check us. My boyfriend came with broken arm and it took 4 hours to check him. No one helped him after that and they just told him he has to have an opperation back at our home country. Last but not least every italian is going to the doctor before him, like we are second class people. The personal was very rude, they didn't even explain whats happening with him 4 hours straight.
