★ ★ ★ ★ ★ L'obelisco (meglio conosciuto come "La Colonna") è il simbolo della città e fu eretto nel 1888, ovvero 28 anni dopo la celebre impresa Garibaldina. Su ogni facciata è presente il nome di una città (Calatafimi, Marsala, Palermo e Volturno), e ognuna di esse è una delle tappe principali della spedizione dei Mille. Su una facciata è incisa una parte del telegramma che Garibaldi invió da Soveria Mannelli a Napoli il giorno dopo dell'impresa: "Dite al mondo che ieri coi miei prodi Calabresi feci abbassare le armi a diecimila soldati, comandati dal generale Ghio". Come (triste) risposta al telegramma, sotto l'obelisco venne posta una targa che recita: "Gliel'abbiamo detto, ma non interessa a nessuno".
The obelisk (better known as "The Column") is the symbol of the city and was built in 1888, it ie 28 years after the famous Garibaldi enterprise. On each side there is the name of a city (Calatafimi, Marsala, Palermo and Volturno), and each of them is one of the main stages of the Expedition of the Thousand. On one side it is engraved a part of the telegram sent by Garibaldi Soveria Mannelli in Naples the day after the company: "Tell the world that yesterday with my mighty Calabresi I put the gloves down to ten thousand soldiers, commanded by General Ghio". As a (sad) answer to the telegram, under the obelisk was placed a plaque that reads: "Gliel'abbiamo said, but nobody cares."
