Worth the 3/5€ according to the selected ticket (1 or 2 catacombs). Lots of different mosaics (the biggest of Europe) and interesting paintings.

This basilica is very much worth a visit. Fantastic mosaic floor. The ongoing excavations were realy interesting as several roman- as well as medieval remnants could be seen in different levels.

We decided to pay the 3€ entrance fee and enter. I was completely stunned at the beauty of the Basilica, the detailed and deeply symbolic floor mosaics, the vaulted ceilings with merkabahs and flowers of life, the frescoes and crypt. It was all very beautiful and makes an impression. I really liked going back to the mosaics to follow the symbolic meanings. We didn’t go into the deeper cavern where there was even more to see, or up into the tower.

The Basilica has an amazing mosaic floor and two cripts, one of which has beautiful frescoes, that are not included in the standard tickets (you can add them or not when you buy your entries. I personally don't know the price of tickets but it's free for art history/architecture students, and there's a pass called "FVG Card Aquileia" that for the price of 15€, or less if you're under 18y/o, gives you access to the Basilica and the two cripts, the baptistery and two other mosaic exposition).

A must visit if you're in the southern area of the Friuli Region. The mosaics on the floor of the church are great to reflect upon the thousands of hours it must have taken to construct it. I was disappointed that the two underground areas cost €4 to see. You could view some additional mosaics and frescoes, but these areas were rather limited. My favorite area was actually outside behind the Basilica in the Cemetery for the Fallen from WWI. The statues and tombstones are a must see.

Stopped for "just a few moments" on the way to Austria and stayed for 2,5 hours. This gorgeous basilika and surroundings date back to Roman Time and if you look at the work done "back in the days", you would be speechless about the level of details and how much the people paid attention to the message they wanted to portray. The balance between "good and evil" as well as the internal struggle to a higher power - it is amazing how many stories have been told with a "simple" mosaic. Don't miss it!

Anyone interested in history, art and architecture should visit this basilica. You can see elements from Roman, Langobard, Carolingian periods, and many more! ?

For only 5 euro you can enter the basilica and witness one if the oldest mosaic floors in Europe. I've never seen anything like it. The artwork is amazing. The entrance also includes the crypt. For an additional charge you can also see the newly excavated crypt. Highly recommend and hidden gem. Unesco site.
