★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Tante volte si iniziano le recensioni con "se si passa da queste parti...", in questo caso invece "si DEVE trovare il tempo di passare"! La visita alla miniera dura circa un'ora ed è davvero interessantissima; le guide, due ex minatori, sono proprio bravi a farti rivivere la storia di Raibl e della cava.
Non aggiungo altro per evitare di cedere al demone dello spoiler, visitatela! Ah con un piccolo extra sul biglietto si può vedere anche il museo della guerra.
Many times we start reviews with "if you pass by here ...", in this case instead "you MUST find the time to pass"! The visit to the mine lasts about an hour and is really interesting; the guides, two former miners, are really good at making you relive the history of Raibl and the quarry.
I don't add anything else to avoid succumbing to the spoiler demon, visit it! Ah with a little extra on the ticket you can also see the war museum.

Il Gigante a.k.a. The Giant on Google
★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Un luogo surreale e inaspettato, le antiche miniere di Raibl a Cave del Predil sono un'esperienza unica e probabilmente indimenticabile. Le miniere sono enormi (moltissimi km di gallerie che arrivano fin nella vicina Slovenia) e esistono sin dai tempi degli antichi romani, sebbene oggi l'attività estrattiva sia ferma. Grazie alla guida di due simpatici ex minatori si assapora, seppure per poco, cosa poteva essere la vita sotterranea, grazie anche alla luce che si scorge ancora nei loro occhi. Un'attrazione turistica che merita di essere rilanciata.
A surreal and unexpected place, the ancient mines of Raibl in Cave del Predil are a unique and probably unforgettable experience. The mines are huge (many km of tunnels arriving as far as neighboring Slovenia) and have existed since the times of the ancient Romans, although today mining is firm. Thanks to the guidance of two friendly ex-miners, one can savor, albeit briefly, what underground life could have been, thanks also to the light that can still be seen in their eyes. A tourist attraction that deserves to be relaunched.
