Interesting and the exhibition "story of a whale" was great and well explained and translated. But most of the museum is only in Italian

This is a museum for children. There are some nice fossils including several nearly complete mammoths and whales, which are nicely displayed. Everything else was lacking. I found the arrangement of exhibit most peculiar. They had two hominid fossils (Oreopithecus children) with little explanation or care for their display. A nice Ichthyosaurus just randomly smacked on a wall. Between the displays of mammoths they had little collections of Mesozoic fossils, which is bound to confuse the general public about the time line. I took a picture of a display with a cast of a Sauropod skull and several skulls of sabertooth tigers, I can only wonder what thought process led to that decision. There was also a display on the evolution of horses, which was fine I guess, though most people with a slight interest in the subject will have seen it all before. In a side room, used for lectures or some such they had shelves and shelves of marine fossils, including some very nice ones. There was no explanation or notation at all, it wasn't really a part of the museum I think. If all you want to do is keep some kids occupied for an hour this might be the place for you. Unless you are really into pleistocene mega fauna this museum this museum will leave you wanting.

This is a well organized museum just off the Piazza de San Marco and the Basilica. It houses a fine display of fossils and an interesting fossil evolution of the horse.

Gorgeous museum, the highlight would have to be the full skeletons of the elephants and the amazing multi horned deer skull

Perfect for organized visits. This museum is not so big but inside there are epic pieces. It includes ancient items about prehistoric period. Giant animals skulls and any skeletons are the main attractions, they show us how the world before the human was so sifferent than now. It s the right opportunity to look back and discover ancient animals now forgot because the progress. Super interesting the Mammoth skeleton conserved in the central place, suggesting lights illuminate it .. big size is very impressing. If you leave to Florence you can t lose the opportunity to look at that!
