In June 2021 the old Roman Archaeological Museum of Cividate Camuno was moved to the new headquarters in Piazzale Giacomini, in a much larger location than the previous one (consider it when reading the previous reviews) and able to offer visitors the possibility to admire many more finds, enhanced by a more modern structure and which winks at even the little ones. Furthermore, now the new museum is in the immediate vicinity of the Roman amphitheater, which can also be freely visited and often admired during events and exhibitions.

The new archaeological museum is really cool! A very accurate setting and a story of the history of this truly engaging territory ... it is also interesting the idea of ​​leaving some works visible also from the external square to create a connection between the museum and the city!

I had visited the museum years ago, in the previous location and with a different set-up. From 11 June 2021 it was moved to the new headquarters located in the historic center, in front of the parish church and close to all the city's archaeological sites. The car park is nearby (also pay attention to the "ruin" in front of it because it contains the traces of the old and disappeared castle). The exhibition is organized in eight thematic sections; exhibits the remains of the Roman age found in Cividate Camuno and in the territory. Almost all of them have a accompanying caption. Neat display mostly in display cases and display cases. It offers a rich epigraphic collection, monumental architectural and sculptural elements, refined frescoes and mosaics from the domus and rich funerary objects from the necropolis, with pendants and amulets also in gold and silver, full of symbolic values. Place of honor for the statue of Minerva, coming from the excavations of the sanctuary of the same name discovered in the locality of Spinera. Overall, the museum allows you to frame the pre-Roman and Roman cults, Roman public architecture (the Baths, the Theater and the Amphitheater) and the domestic environments (a domus already had underfloor heating!), The necropolis ( different ways of burying the dead), and the passage to the Romanization of the Valley. The museum has two floors, a multimedia station (to be improved), it is an external area with an open pit excavation. It is not very large and the path is not tired. Completely free, it also has a cafeteria-restaurant (which also serves external users). I appreciated the fact that the visitor can take the time necessary to dwell on the finds and on what interests him to deepen, because the visit is free, without a guide. Promoted!
