T	Tiziana mezza on Google ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ La bellezza della natura circostante e la particolare collocazione dell'eremo fanno di San Giovanni un luogo pieno di fascino e di mistero. Pietro da Morrone vi si ritirò, sperando che pochi potessero seguirlo in un luogo così impervio. L'accesso all'eremo avviene attraverso una scalinata ed un camminamento scavati nella parete: in prossimità dell'ingresso il camminamento si interrompe costringendo il visitatore ad un passaggio particolarmente emozionante data l'esposizione. Scavati nella parete troviamo due piccoli ambienti con numerose nicchie ed un altarino. Tengo a precisare che non è per tutti visitare questo luogo, soprattutto per chi soffre di vertigini, datosi che per poter entrare bisogna sdraiarsi a terra e trascinarsi con il corpo lentamente senza mai guardare giù...quindi fate attenzione!??? The beauty of the surrounding nature and the particular location of the hermitage make San Giovanni a place full of charm and mystery. Pietro da Morrone withdrew there, hoping that few would follow him in such an inaccessible place. Access to the hermitage is via a staircase and a walkway dug into the wall: near the entrance the walkway stops forcing the visitor to a particularly exciting passage given the exposure. Excavated in the wall we find two small rooms with numerous niches and an altar. I would like to clarify that it is not for everyone to visit this place, especially for those suffering from vertigo, since in order to enter you have to lie down on the ground and drag your body slowly without ever looking down ... so be careful! ???
a	andrea cieri on Google ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Sentiero preso da decontra .. si raggiunge in circa 2 ore e 30 .. per l’andata è un po’ tutto in salita ma l’arrivo ripagherà lo sforzo Path taken from decontra .. it can be reached in about 2 hours and 30 .. for the outward journey it is a bit uphill but the arrival will pay off the effort

Può essere raggiunto sia da Decontra che dall'imbocco della valle dell'orfento. La prima alternativa è la più celere ed è comunque paesaggisticamente molto soddisfacente. The hermitage of San Giovanni is one of the most suggestive Celestinian hermitages, as you can see from the photos. It can be reached both from Decontra and from the mouth of the Orfento valley. The first alternative is the quickest and is however very satisfying in terms of landscape.

Il sentiero è segnato male soprattutto all'inizio . Proseguendo bisogna ricordarsi di passare alla destra di uno stazzo/rifugio . Beautiful hermitage. Continuing, we must remember to go to the right of a stazzo / refuge.
F	Fantastico Abruzzo on Google ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Uno degli eremi più spettacolari d'Abruzzo, un sentiero bello e panoramico che parte dal paese di Decontra di Caramanico. Un paio di passaggi esposti per arrivare in un luogo davvero magico. Consigliatissimo se non si soffre di vertigini. One of the most spectacular hermitages of Abruzzo, a beautiful and panoramic path that starts from the village of Decontra di Caramanico. A couple of exposed passages to get to a truly magical place. Highly recommended if you don't suffer from vertigo.
A	Andrea Barzanti on Google ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Uno degli eremi più inaccessibili e difficili fa raggiungere ma di sicura suggestione. Per raggiungerlo a piedi da Decontra si deve affrontare una faticosa camminata di oltre 3 ore. Se si ha un suv o un auto 4x4 si possono percorrere circa 8 km su una disagevole strada sterrata che porta fino alla catena di Pianagrande a quota 1540 mt. Da qui prendendo il sentiero a destra in circa 40 minuti di cammino in un bosco di faggi si raggiunge l'eremo. Il sentiero non è impegnativo ma in dei punti molto pericoloso per chi soffre di vertigini e non solo visto che si cammina su uno stretto sentiero con strapiombi piuttosto inquietanti che ne sconsigliano la percorribilità a bambini piccoli ed anziani. Anche la salita all'eremo una volta raggiunto è particolarmente difficoltosa si cammina ad oltre 10mt di altezza in una incavatura ricavata nella roccia senza alcuna protezione ed in un punto si deve letteralmente strisciare per oltrepassare una strettissima insenatura letteralmente sospesi nel vuoto. Da visitare solo se veramente convinti di affrontare coraggio e vertigini. One of the most inaccessible and difficult hermitages makes reach but certainly suggestive. To reach it on foot from Decontra you have to undertake a strenuous walk of over 3 hours. If you have an SUV or a 4x4 car you can travel about 8 km on an unpaved dirt road that leads up to the Pianagrande chain at an altitude of 1540 m. From here, take the path to the right in about 40 minutes of walking in a beech forest to reach the hermitage. The path is not demanding but in places very dangerous for those who suffer from vertigo and not only because you walk on a narrow path with rather disturbing cliffs that do not recommend the practicability of small and old children. Even the climb to the hermitage, once reached, is particularly difficult, walking at a height of over 10 meters in a recess formed in the rock without any protection and at one point it must literally crawl to cross a very narrow inlet literally suspended in the void. To visit only if you truly believe you are facing courage and dizziness.
F	F on Google ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Posto molto bello ma pochi metri prima dell'eremo è molto rischioso perché si passa su una ciglio di 30 cm con sotto uno strapiombo altissimo. Basterebbe una piccola ferrata per quel passaggio Very nice place but a few meters before the hermitage it is very risky because you pass on a 30 cm edge with a very high overhang underneath. A small via ferrata would be enough for that passage
s	simone zerti on Google ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Great place to spend time during summer when it is cooler in the Mountain. Snow will last from October to April so wear some trekking boots. If you like bush walking there are some hiking routes to enjoy the activity. Bring some good food is necessary to keep your self up due long walking distance.
