La leggenda narra che San Francesco, in visita nella zona, prima di recarsi a Civita, dormi una notte in questa Grotta. Anni dopo la madre di quello che sarebbe diventato San Bonaventura, in considerazione della malattia che aveva colpito il figlio, lo depose in questa Grotta è lui guarì. In seguito prese i voti e poi divenne frate celebrante e scrisse la biografia di san Francesco. Dopo la morte fu beatificato e poi santificato, divenendo il patrono di Bagnoregio. A simple cave that is located near the car park for Civita, at the beginning of the pedestrian which leads to the bridge towards the village. Legend has it that St. Francis, visiting the area, before going to Civita, sleep one night in this cave. Years later the mother of what was to become San Bonaventura, in consideration of the illness that had struck her son, deposed him in this Grotto and he recovered. He then took the vows and then became a celebrating friar and wrote the biography of Saint Francis. After his death he was beatified and then sanctified, becoming the patron saint of Bagnoregio.

C'è una freccia che indica la sua presenza, se la si segue si scendono pochi ma ripidi e scivolosissimi gradini e poi...una grata oltre la quale un quadro del santo. Se ci fosse una targa con la descrizione di questo posto sarebbe ben gradita, soprattutto per quei turisti ignari che si fanno parecchi km per visitare questo borgo meraviglioso In all honesty, I didn't understand what it is. There is an arrow that indicates its presence, if you follow it you go down a few but steep and very slippery steps and then ... a grate beyond which a painting of the saint. If there was a plaque with the description of this place it would be very welcome, especially for those unsuspecting tourists who travel several kilometers to visit this wonderful village.
