the recently built museum allows you to complete the overall vision of the early Christian history of Aquileia, hosting the historical presences adjacent to the basilica complex on several layers; with a glance you can see the rooms of a Roman domus and the representative rooms of the episcope; the apsidal hall with its mosaics is considerable

Acquileia is a Lugo that conveys peace. Each layer of its past has left a valuable testimony of a fascinating history spanning 2,000 years. The display lightly enhances its treasures.

ENGLISH: AULA ABSIDATA: dates back to the 4th century phase, built inside the block occupied by the Theodorian basilica complex and perhaps belonging to the bishop's residence. It is a large reception room (about 100 square meters), built according to architectural models in vogue at the time. The apse with a width of over 5 meters was raised and connected to the floor of the hall by a step. The walls and ceiling were decorated with frescoes. In the mosaic floor there is an original curtain motif made of tiles in shaded colors, to enhance the representative function of the apse itself. CLASSROOM: the floor is divided into 3 different backgrounds in plant bands, with a square in the center of which only part of the frame remains. Simple geometric textures, with polychrome figurative motifs. The depictions recall the Roman mosaic production: fish, octopuses, shells, birds among bunches of grapes, flowered racemes, baskets and bowls full of fruit (wealth of nature as an idea of well-being and prosperity).
