Da I' Mariani

This is an absolute must. The food is of best quality and the owner Gianfranco is an original like no other. My wife and I had a plate of mixed meats and cheeses with a glass of white wine. We can't wait to return.

Pros: - Maybe the best charcuterie board you ever had (called taglierone in Tuscany). Extremely high quality local meats, cheeses, Tuscan bread, and truffle honey. - The local Vernaccia di San Gimignano white wine is excellent. - 25 euros for a big taglierone board and two glasses of the local wine. Not cheap, but a good deal for what you get. Definitely get the taglierone board and not the sandwiches. - The owner (John Franco) is highly entertaining if you understand Italian. When we were in there the other two Italian couples seemed to be having a great time listening to his banter, which we didn't understand. Cons: - The place is TINY and can seat only 6 people absolute maximum (only 4 comfortably), so be prepared to wait or come back. - Service is EXTREMELY slow - John will take a leisurely 20 minutes or so making each taglierone board, and if there are folks in front of you the wait can seem like forever. It;'s fun to watch, and even more fun if you can understand his descriptions of each item he's adding (we couldn't), but you can't be in a hurry. It sure seems like he could move a little faster, but I guess it's his place and he can do what he wants. Caveat emptor. - If you ask for a second glass of wine and he offers you an upgrade to a better local wine, check the price first. My second glass of wine (upgraded) added a surprising 15 euros to the cost of our lunch (I was expecting 5-7 maybe), leaving me feeling like I had been taken advantage of due to the language barrier. The wine was very good, but not that much better than the similar wine included with the meat and cheese board.

My wife and I looked it up and stopped in for a bite to eat. Had the meat and cheese plate and a glass of the local white wine and a chianti. The proprietor was perfect and explained the items as he sliced the meats and cheeses. Excellent place for true Tuscan meats and cheeses experience.

It was an amazing experience, because the owner was continuously telling stories when preparing our dish! Definitely the most amazing place visited so far!!

This was a really cool little shop in San Gimignano with some super high quality meats and cheeses. The food was absolutely exceptional. The guy running the place doesn’t speak a great deal of English but he was super friendly, interactive, and very entertaining and told us each of the meats he was putting on the board as he was cutting them. If you want something quick and quaint and undeniably delicious while visiting San Gimignano, Da l’ Mariani is a perfect choice.

A small (3 bar stools at one counter and 3 at another) eatery for deli meats and cheeses. We asked the owner to make us a plate of meats and received a sampling of everything behind the glass for 25 Euro for two people. We also loved the local wine and ended up buying a bottle to take with us. They don't take credit cards or U.S. currency so have Euros.

Really personable experience - chatted a lot with the very friendly owner who has always lived above the shop! Explained every meat and cheese he was cutting fresh for us and had a delicious meat and cheese platter plus delicious white wine! Highly recommend
