β β β β β In origine il criptoportico della villa era il piano inferiore di una villa piΓΉ antica, che lβimperatore Adriano inglobΓ² nella sua. Serviva per passeggiare al coperto. In un angolo cβera una piccola fontana per l'estate, quando era utilizzato come luogo fresco e riparato.
La vera particolarità del Criptoportico è che conserva quasi intatto un bel soffitto in mosaico decorato da conchiglie, tessere colorate e bastoncini in pasta vitrea. Sta lì da 18 secoli ed è l'unico al mondo ancora in sito.
Originally the cryptoporticus of the villa was the lower floor of an older villa, which the Emperor Hadrian incorporated into his own. It was used for indoor walking. In one corner there was a small fountain for the summer, when it was used as a cool and sheltered place.
The real peculiarity of the Cryptoporticus is that it preserves almost intact a beautiful mosaic ceiling decorated with shells, colored tiles and glass paste sticks. It has been there for 18 centuries and is the only one in the world still in place.
