Architectural structure of ancient origins. The building stands on what was once a Romanesque cistern. At the end of the 19th century the upper part used for the storage of dry fodder was built by the will of Duke Giovanni Torlonia. It is estimated that this deposit could contain 100 quintals of hay usable by the thriving agricultural community present in the Caffarella park. After a collapse in 2011, the building was partially rebuilt and consolidated thanks to a renovation program in collaboration with the superintendence of cultural heritage of Roma Capitale concluded in 2013.

Walking in the Parco della Caffarella among the ancient ruins is always magical. I come there to think and relax and always in the summer when we organize excursions to discover fireflies that are wonderful

ENGLISH: Already from the name we understand the predominant characters of the history of the Caffarella Valley, an agricultural estate rich in water and with a network of hydraulic structures among the agricultural buildings serving the estate. This structure measures 14 x 5.5 meters, built from reused bricks and modern materials, set on the tub of a Roman hydraulic structure in concrete work of basaltic lava scales, datable between the Republican age and the early imperial age. In the Gregorian Land Registry (1816-1835) the building is defined as a "ruined house", as part of the Tenuta della Caffarella, owned by Duke Giovanni Torlonia. Between the end of the 19th century and the beginning of the 20th century the building was transformed into a barn by the Torlonia family, as part of the renovation works of the Tarani Reserve, of which the structure was part: in particular, the upper floor was built as a deposit for the dry forage. After a major collapse in 2011, the Appia Antica Regional Park under the ROP 2007-2013 carried out an important consolidation of the structure and also the reconstruction, in part, of the short East and West sides.
