★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Santa Felicità (Church of St Felicity) is a Roman Catholic church in Florence, region of Tuscany, Italy, probably the oldest in the city after San Lorenzo. In the 2nd century, Syrian Greek merchants settled in the area south of the Arno and are thought to have brought Christianity to the region. The first church on the site was probably built in the late 4th century or early 5th century and was dedicated to Saint Felicity of Rome. A new church was built in the 11th century and the current church largely dates from 1736–1739, under design by Ferdinando Ruggieri, who turned it into a one nave edifice. The monastery was suppressed under the Napoleonic occupation of 1808–1810.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Magnificent church with absolute masterpieces of Pontormo (Capponi Chapel) both in fresco and on panel... more Santi di Tito in the main chapel and not to miss the 'Maccabei' by Antonio Ciseri a super history painting of the Accademic style of the mid 19th century, the best to be seen in Florence. The Baroque architecture for the Guicciardini family (patrons of the church) is mostly of Foggini time and style. A precious gem in the city context.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Step inside the church of Santa Felicita to see one of the most beautiful paintings in Florence. Jacopo Pontormo's depiction of the Deposition, which hangs in the Capponi Chapel, to the right of the entrance, is a masterpiece of Mannerist art.
Pontormo also painted the fresco of the Annunciation, which adorns the side wall of the chapel.
At the time of writing (April, 2017) the chapel is closed for restoration.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Nice venue for a baroque music concert. It was in a smaller room in the building and the acoustics were pretty nice. The benches can be a bit hard on the tushies though.
