The Fountain and the gargoyle are from the sec. XVI in the piazza of Frescobaldi were designed by Buontalenti, the same as the facade (1593) of the Santa Trinta church, which is very close by.

È una delle fontane pubbliche più famose ed eleganti della città, tra le più belle del quartiere di Oltrarno. Lo sprone, in pietra, è arricchito da uno scudo con l'arme dei Medici e da una fontana (da considerare non di pertinenza della casa ma squisito elemento di arredo urbano) con la vasca a forma di conchiglia e con lo zampillo che esce da un mascherone grottesco, il tutto di pretto gusto tardo manieri sta.
The Fontana dello Sprone is located along Borgo San Jacopo in a narrow corner below a private terrace of the Casa dei Frescobaldi. It is one of the most famous and elegant public fountains in the city, among the most beautiful in the Oltrarno district. The spur, in stone, is enriched by a shield with the Medici arms and a fountain (to be considered not belonging to the house but an exquisite element of street furniture) with the shell-shaped basin and with the gush that comes out of a grotesque mask, all in good late manor taste.
