★ ★ ★ ★ ★ The nicest church that we saw on our trip to Vicenza. Though it is brick built (or at least brick clad on the outside) rather than made of stone it is very impressive both inside and out.
Lots of wonderful paintings on the inside and various other statues and the line. To me it is more impressive that the Cathedral, hence if you only have time to visit one, visit this one.
Lots of history inside and free to visit/wander around. You can take pictures inside if that is your thing.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ The Church dedicated in the name of San Lorenzo in Portovenere, was believed to be built between 1118 and 1130 by the Genoeses. It was erected on the rocky hills at the center of Portovenere as the official cathedral of the colony. The church is such a significant part of the Portovenere's landscape and is definitely worth a visit. The church was consecrated in 1130 by Pope Innocence II. The beautiful art work in the interior of the church is from the 15th –century.
The White Madona (Madonna Bianca), miraculous image for whom Portovenere’s citizens have a sacred admiration can be found in the right side Altar. There is a miraculous incident behind this image. And every year on August 17th, there is a great procession carrying the image of the Madonna Bianca to the Portovenere town. During this procession the entire two is illuminated and especially the San Pietro Church in Portovenere is illuminated with thousands of candles.
